White House offers 'grand bargain' on tax cuts and infrastructure
NBC ^ | Sun Jan 5, 2014 | Tom Curry, National Affairs Writer, NBC News

Gene Sperling, the director of President Barack Obama’s National Economic Council, said Sunday that Obama is offering congressional Republicans “a grand bargain on jobs. He has said he would be willing to do corporate tax reform that lowers rates to 28 percent, simplifies taxes for small businesses, but do it together with a major infrastructure investment.”

In his budget proposal last year, Obama called for $50 billion in additional short-term federal spending on infrastructure projects such as bridges, highways, and mass transit systems, as well as creation of a National Infrastructure Bank to make loans to such projects.

“The economy is improving” and “we’ve had a lot of momentum,” Sperling said on NBC’s Meet the Press, but there are still “people who are desperately looking for work.” He said, “We have to admit – and we do admit -- that the worst legacy of this great recession is the crisis of long-term unemployment.”

OK so lets get this straight we are told that Obama wants to cut the corporate tax rate at a time when companies are reaping record returns in the market... and then we are also told that Obama and Democrats plan to run on a campaign theme of weatlh inequality...

I guess you next he will be saying if you like your money you can keep it, there is no one here in government trying to take your money from you.

To a Liberal like Obama the hard working middleclass is the target those that work hard to make it somehow we didn't earn it, we didn't build it and he feels like it is up to us not the rich, he can't handle the rich, it is us in the middle that he fully intends to steal our weatlh and our health through his share the health obamacare and share the weatlh tax increases all to be passed on to the lazy liberal voting base in the guise of fairness.

Amazingly smart and unexpected. The GOP needs to be very careful here.

Are you kidding. The Stupid Party is going to jump right into Obama's arms and embrace this crap. They're the Washington Generals to his Harlem Globetrotters.

I just wonder where do all the gas tax money go that supposed to go for roads and bridges? Bush's transportation bill? Obama's porkulus bill? All of that was supposed to pay for infrastructure many times over.

If he's on the level. But, with him it's always a shell game--give with one hand, take away with the other. I think this is PR--but it may be effective PR.

I think NBC Obama and NBC news is probably distorting things here....I won’t believe it until a reliable conservative evaluates an actual written proposal.

the real problem here is that the last time this was done in 2009-2010 — most of the money that was susposed to go for infrastructure projects instead went to prop up state governments payrolls.

Why would this time be any different?

Rumor has it that Mao Tse Tung also proposed one or two “grand bargains” during *his* enlightened reign.

"but do it together with a major infrastructure investment."

Now just where is the money to do that? China??? What a ridiculous idiot! The Chinese already laughed at his former Secretary of the Treasury when he went over there to beg for their cooperation!!!

"Infrastructure investment" is code for laundering taxpayer dollars to Democrat candidates through labor union dues.

He is doing nothing but buying votes for the Dems at midterms and then the general elections. I can hear the ads now, "my administration cut the corporate tax rate to 28%". The media will not let us forget it either.

Agreed this was smart - first smart thing he has done since winning reelection. However, the GOP will go along to get along like always. Truth be told, they love to spend money just as much as the rats on “infrastructure.”

Despite any tax cuts - the benefit to business will be blunted by Obamacare and increased regulatory costs as well as the inflation we are causing by Fed pumping.

This lying bast!!d will offer the kitchen sink just to get the misinformed to vote for his sick offers. And the MSM and Hollywood will pass it along. The GOP has nothing to counteract this and forget 2014. Afraid America is finished.

The gop faction of the uniparty will jump at this. But not because they’re stupid: because they’re corrupt and fundamentally agree with dear leader.
