Chicago Public School officials say they’re canceling classes ahead of Monday’s bitter cold temperatures, after first saying they would be open.

The reversal comes after withering criticism from the Chicago Teachers Union, though officials say they made the decision after (they) “evaluated the situation again.” …

Chicagoans should pray for blizzards more often. That’s the ony thing that holds the level of violence slightly below Fallujah.

Uphill BOTH ways, of course!

The problem in Chicago is that some of the kids mothers spend the hat and glove budget on booze, drugs, or new (stolen) 19” alloy wheels for their BF’s beater AND the stupid union bus drivers will call in sick at the last minute and leave the kids standing in the -50 wind chill.

I love cold weather, but -50 wind chill is a bit cool.

When I was a kid, there were 2 days in a row when it was -15 actual temperature both mornings as I waited for my bus, but no wind at all. I was stunned when I found out how cold it was. It didn’t feel cold.

County schools in NE Mississippi will be closed tomorrow. Minus 10-20 degrees wind chill is not normal for this area and people are not careful with it.

We would lay on the ground and stare at the sun until our corneas burst into flames! And we liked it!

That was one of the funniest things on SNL in those days. Dennis Miller used to lose it every time.

When you turned 17 you were given the family handkerchief.

Yes it was funny! I liked the old man then because I would be the old man some day. I'll be 60 on the 15th of this month. But that is still apprentice level for old man.

We were so poor we couldn’t afford a family handkerchief. We learned to place a finger on the clear nostril and blow through the blocked nostril. We called it a snot rocket or a mucous missile depending on the velocity.

I’ll be fity but I’m already telling the kids that we didn’t have any fancy schmancy twitterbooks or wifi modems. In my day we used a dial up modem and the screeching was so loud your eardrums would burst. We’d walk out into the street with blood running out of our ears and get hit by a truck because we couldn’t hear it comin and WE LIKED IT!

LOL. My kids are now 34 and 32. I have 5 grandchildren, the oldest will be 6 in March. My kids grew up listening to my stories of growing up as the 3rd of 6 kids, “we were so poor that we didn’t have a high chair. We had a had a clothes pin bag nailed to the wall that the youngest would be placed in and older kids would toss food into the bag. But we were happy and proud and knew there were better days ahead.” Now I’m expected to tell these stories as the babies get older.

They are predicting wind chill of -45 degrees. Frostbite to exposed skin will occur within 10 minutes.

Many, many businesses are closing tomorrow in Chicago, and throughout Northern Illinois.

We were so poor we couldn’t afford shoes. So we painted our feet brown and laced up our toes.
