Boehner Is Said to Back Change on Immigration
NY Times ^ | 1/1/13 | MICHAEL D. SHEAR and ASHLEY PARKER

Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio has signaled he may embrace a series of limited changes to the nation’s immigration laws in the coming months, giving advocates for change new hope that 2014 might be the year that a bitterly divided Congress reaches a political compromise to overhaul the sprawling system.

Mr. Boehner has in recent weeks hired Rebecca Tallent, a longtime immigration adviser to Senator John McCain, the Arizona Republican who has long backed broad immigration changes. Advocates for an overhaul say the hiring, as well as angry comments by Mr. Boehner critical of Tea Party opposition to the recent budget deal in Congress, indicates that he is serious about revamping the immigration system despite deep reservations from conservative Republicans.

Aides to Mr. Boehner said this week that he was committed to what he calls “step by step” moves to revise immigration laws, which they have declined to specify.

Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio has signaled he may...

...get down on his knees and act like a Vichy Republican. What a change of pace, eh?

So why did Boehner hire the woman who co-wrote the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bills to be his new Amnesty Czar?

Overhaul, change, reform, all mean amnesty. Nothing else and nothing less.

I support immigration reform in 2014 - it is a must - and this what I support:

#1 is seal both north and south borders.

#2 remove all Obama restrictions on the Border Patrol and allow them to do their jobs.

#3. All Immigration judges are to order immediate deportation of all illegal aliens charged with crimes - all crimes.

#4. Pass legislation forbidding illegal aliens from accessing any and all welfare benefits derived from federal funds. (ditto - education)

#5. strictly enforce the law prohibiting employers from hiring illegal aliens.

#6. Pass stringent laws denying citizenship to children born of two non-citizens (legal or illegal) The Constitution does so state this but has been misinterpreted over the years per some (many?)constitutional scholars.

With the above in place self-deportation will take place. This is real immigration reform

This I support and no more!

I think the GOP will get tough on illegal immigration, and put them all on double-secret probation.

The strategy is for the GOPe to fracture the party even more ahead of the 2014 mid terms. In this way, any negative effect from Obamacare to the Democrats will be largely muted. This in turn will assure the GOPe’s minority status for years to come thus achieving the party’s long term strategy of “managed decline”.

Mr. Boehner... moves to revise immigration laws, which they have declined to specify.

Looks like Boner has already made amnesty a done deal.

RE :”Consider the source( the NYT)”

Good point.

The MSM and libs keep saying that this is Obama’s best bet to a legislative accomplishment, this is just another example of that.

I heard one on Sunday shows saying between the election and primary is their best bet, and Paul Ryan would sell it with his conservative creds.

They got one uphill path.

“Step by step changes” means it goes to the Senate where their version is written into it and then goes to Senate-House conference committee and then to the House for a vote.

A vote in the House means ALL democrats will vote for it leaving the need for only 17 ‘squish’ republicans to vote for it, and Amnesty for 11 million + lawbreakers becomes the critical step for it to be law of the land.

Immigration law needs reform but NOT with this Senate and NOT under this President.

It is so easy for you guys to come on this board and complain and spill out your sour grapes over this outrage. Why not call up your congressmen and other peoples congressmen and complain and give your sour grapes to them instead?

So why did Boehner hire the woman who co-wrote the McCain-Kennedy amnesty bills to be his new Amnesty Czar?

That's the question EVERYONE should be asking of their Congressperson.

Why did Boehner hire Rebecca Tallent (McShame/Kennedy Amnesty Czar) as a consultant? You have to ask your Reps, since Bonehead's office doesn't typically take calls.

Boehner Is Said to Back Change on Immigration

Yeah, I'd back some changes in immigration, like make it harder for unskilled, non-English speaking drones.

You should be a professional, have a good command of the language, and meet all of the stringent requirements before being even considered for citizenship.
