(CNN) - It may have been the least productive year for Congress in history, at least in terms of passing laws fewer than 60 of which made it through the House and Senate and were signed by President Barack Obama.
Across the country, however, state lawmakers were busy getting more than 40,000 bills passed, ones that tackle everything from drones to food stamp benefits.
In Illinois for example, teenagers will no longer get to use tanning beds without a doctor's note. If you live in Delaware, visit the shark fin buffet while you can, a new law will make it illegal to own, sale, or distribute the controversial delicacy. And in California, new laws take effect that will let students take part in school sports, or use bathrooms based on their gender identity, regardless of the gender noted in their birth certificates.
Legendary attorney, Harvard law professor, and author of "Taking the Stand" Alan Dershowitz joins "The Lead" to discuss some of the other fascinating and controversial new laws of 2014.

Remember, Ignorance of The Law is no excuse.
The letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
and the UsA prospered then
we need a reset to 1900, repeal all laws and amendments to 1901 , at all levels of government
we need freedom , small constitutionally limited government , and a truly free market(capitalism ) now.I'm a Republican and that's what i want and is needed
you ‘re right. what these idiot politicians and democrats are creating is a new monstrous government(40,000 new laws per year) that has never been seen before. and now with the tech the private sector gave them they can control us and oppress us to a level no people ever have been subjected too
That’s about 110 laws passed per day for a year.
You’d think that they should be eliminating 1,000’s per day to earn their keep.
They should make it illegal to enact a new law without repealing a couple of old ones.
Before any new law is enacted, they should be required to explain how it is we got by for 200 years without it.
If I ever run for office, my campaign promise will be that I will enact no new laws. I promise I will stay out of your business; I will not launch any new crusades, I promise not to pursue any grand new designs. If elected I will do nothing except look for laws to repeal and programs to defund.
I promise to vote no on everything.
“Before any new law is enacted, they should be required to explain how it is we got by for 200 years without it.”
And for every new law, you have to get rid of an old law. (Like when new towels come into our house).
from Ayn Rand's book Atlas Shrugged:
ÂDid you really think we want those laws observed?" said Dr. Ferris. "We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted  and you create a nation of law-breakers  and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with. â Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
this is to get people to say “we have to do something”
and then politicians write new laws to do something to solve this urgent crisis that never actually exists
as another example take obamacare
some of the fake crisis the news media drummed into everyone was
1.45 million American with no healthcare
well i won't say the others for obamacaare as to not to give some here who believe that bs more ammo
but you get the point
well to solve this fake crisis they had to pass a 3000 page law called obamacare .
and this is how they are institutionalizing socialism/liberalism/marxism into law. they won't rest until government has control over everything and all of us and everything we do
I thought this guy knew constitutional law? I guess I was wrong.
I suppose he means Obamacare will be a good law for the people that don’t have to join it because there is no health care or health insurance in Obamacare.
save
Very few that "allow" you to do new things, unless it's something that liberals like.
And what's the deal with DeBlasio and the horse-drawn carriages?
That is one of the most charming things about NYC.
I'm sure that the liberal nanny-state will spread to other cities, but for now, just...please... leave us alone.
Remember - "effective today".
However, you can't actually, legally, drive 70 mph, until the new speed limit signs are posted.
$0,000 laws is probably more than is needed in an entire country for a few centuries - and we have that many being added in a single year.
From the Declaration of Independence:
...He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance...
40,000 new laws take effect in 2014
