Vladimir Putin vows 'total annihilation' of terrorists after Volgograd bombings
The Telegraph ^ | 31 Dec 2013 | Roland Oliphant

Vladimir Putin has vowed to pursue terrorists to “total annihilation”, in his first public comments since the Volgograd suicide bombings. In his traditional New Year's Eve address, which was broadcast at midnight from the Far Eastern city of Khabarovsk, (5pm in Moscow), he praised Russia’s unity in the face of both terrorism and natural disasters and promised to continue an unrelenting fight against the bombers. “In the past year we have faced problems and serious challenges including the inhuman terror attacks in Volgograd and unprecedented disasters in the Far East,” he said. “Dear friends, we bow our heads in memory of the victims of these terrible attacks. We will strongly and decisively continue the battle against terrorists until their total annihilation,” he said.

Mr Putin earlier provoked a storm of condemnation on the Russian internet on Sunday after the message broadcast an hour earlier in Kamchatka, Russia’s most easterly timezone, made no mention of the attacks. The second speech was quickly recorded at a reception for victims of devastating floods that struck Khabarovsk and other Far Eastern cities earlier this year. His comments after Volgograd began to bury its dead and the death toll from the suicide blasts continued to rise.

Do not poke this bear with a stick. Bad advice to follow. The toll in behind closed doors is going to be fearsome.

I remember a story about the cold-war soviets havinng one of their people kidnapped for ransom- The soviets responded by tossing on of the terrorists into a furnace live - with the promise of more until their man was released

He was released and it never happened again.

It’s a weird world where I find myself rooting for the Russian Leader

I'm worried about the Olympics next month. This is Putin's masterpiece..and the terrorists know that disrupting it with a bomb(s) would dive him crazy...they have to be targeting it.

Security's gonna be a nightmare, and the Russians will be very heavy handed about it..

Makes Obama look like a girl yet again. After Boston, he said what exactly? “Uhhhh.... If I had a son...”

Putin’s immediate response was to deploy Cossack volunteers. (note: Cossacks, NOT Kossacks, who are obese left wing internet trolls). He deloyed the Cossacks with dogs and orders to hunt down the terrorists if they were still in the city. We can assume the Cossacks would have meted out their own street justice which is what they’re known for.
Excellent stuff.

He didn’t threaten to “decimate” them? This will be good....

You also can’t count out a GLAAD induced bombing or shooting.

This has the same ring as Hitler threatening the Jews because they were direct threats to his Reich. We can look for a KGB-like force to start beating on doors in the night.

Putin has a pretty firm grasp on who his enemies are. Obastard does not have that luxury.

excellent post, esp. comment that Putin makes Obama look like a girl - because he does. I don’t think obama has enough testosterone to grow hair on his chest, never mind deal w/terrorists on any logical level.

There are many variants of that story, but here is one:

http://suite101.com/a/the-kgb-counter-terrorism-operation-in-lebanon

“In October 1985 Alpha Group was tasked with a counter-terrorism hostage-rescue operation in Beirut Lebanon. Four Russian diplomats had been kidnapped there by a fundamentalist Islamic group which called itself the Islamic Liberation Organization, an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. It has been speculated that this hostage-taking was revenge for Russia’s support of Syria which was engaged in the shelling of Islamist militants in the Lebanese city of Tripoli. They threatened to kill the hostages one at a time unless the Soviets pressured it’s ally in Damascus to put a stop to attacks on the militants in Tripoli.”

“When Alpha arrived on the ground they found that one of the four hostages had already been shot in the head and left in a trash dump. Alpha Group quickly responded by doing something which sent a very clear and unambiguous message to those hostage-takers. Through their knowledge of who the hostage-takers were they tracked down and located one of their kinsmen and proceeded to castrate him and then send on the dismembered body parts to the hostage-takers! But not only that, with that they also sent a note indicating they knew some other relatives of the hostage-takers who could also be hurt in similar ways.”

“Seeing how serious the Russians were the hostage-takers promptly released these hostages — dropping them off near the Soviet Embassy. No more Russians were taken hostage in Lebanon for another twenty years as a result of the Alpha Groups ruthlessness when it came with dealing with those people.”

My vote: The Russians should carpet bomb every known terrorist training camp in the world, as much as possible simultaneously, and then ask the CIA/NSA (informally, not going through State or the White House) for a list of locations they missed.

I wouldn’t worry. If the Muslims (a.k.a. terrorists) had a bigger plan I doubt they would’ve tipped their hand in advance. Why not just spring the plan at the actual Olympics?

But then again, they’re insane. So anything is possible.

I understand that Saudi Arabia bragged (through one of their “Princes) that they now control Chechnia and that they (SA) are ticked off about the way Russia is treating Syria.
I would not be surprised to see some high value targets seriously damaged in both Saudi and Chechnia. Putin may not be a poster boy for freedom but he won’t be PC over those he believes are hurting Russia. SA can be badly hurt by the “untimely” release of Russian oil and gas. Chechnia could get a taste of what the Ukraine was force-fed as the holdomor.
(Getting old has some strange side effects. I’m not sure of the spelling of many of the words I just typed but I think I was able to make my point. Sorry.)
