Republicans count enough competitive races to challenge Democrats for control of the Senate in the 2014 elections, if only they can figure out what to do with the tea party.
Crowded primaries in states such as Georgia, Iowa and North Carolina, where tea partyers and social conservatives are fighting for the nomination and pushing candidates farther right, worry many Republicans, especially after they saw their legitimate shots at a Senate majority slip away in 2010 and 2012.
Republicans need a net gain of six seats to capture control from Democrats, who effectively hold a 55-45 advantage now. But Democrats will be defending 21 of 35 seats to be decided in November, and President Barack Obama is looking like a major drag for them. Midterm elections are often tough for a president's party in any event.
"History is with us, geography is with us and the president's signature legislative achievement is the most unpopular" law of his tenure, Rob Collins, executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said of Obama and his health care overhaul.

Run on Obamacare and then not do a damn thing about it.
LOL. Since Republicans agree with Obama on social, and fiscal issues, and have no opinion on foreign policy, why are people going to rush out on them? Almost every elected Republican admits they have no intention of opposing ACA, if they don’t outright support it.
The Republicans are like the Dallas Cowboys. They’ll always find a new way to lose........................
Here in Michigan the RINOs have opted out of running for the senate and we’ve got a solid secretary of state and new election oversight rules.
If the GOP manages to seize control of COngress with RINO votes, their “victory” is IRRELEVANT. They will do NOTHING and most CERTAINLY will NOT imepach that bastard in the White House. AND, the LATTER is a NECCESSITY if our Republic is to survive. OTHERWISE, we become another Banana Republic.
It won’t matter. If the ‘Pubbies take the Senate, the traitors in “Gang of 7” will support the Democrats...
Why is it that Democrats never lose their base but Republicans treat theirs like dirt? Aside from the parties not being substantively different any more, I mean?
Wait. I just answered my own question.
“The Republicans are like the Dallas Cowboys. Theyll always find a new way to lose........................”
Ha ha..... Classic but sad
For an anti-Tea Party GOP to take control, and to continue the same destructive policies as the Dems would be just as much a failure as for the Dems to win.
The Tea Party is the only hope, however forlorn, of preventing societal collapse.
....and then figure out ways to blow it!
If amnesty is passed, you can forget about a majority.
Tens of millions of conservatives will look to a new party.
Not one dimes worth of difference in a GOP controlled Senate.
More like the Bears defense aka Cover Who?: Easily fooled by misdirection and allow the opposition run all over you.
*reference to cover 2 defense)
How to do it with the Tea Party? Easy, just support REAL conservatives and not just RINOs.
Too bad the Tea Party couldn’t hold an early convention to pick our conservative candidate to run against the RINO, and have the other Conservatives bow out once the Tea Party chose its candidate.
Like yesterday’s game?
Oh, there’s a free ball on the ground?...................
They will pass amnesty and the party is over.
Exactly. Terri Land, our senate candidate in Michigan is well respected among tea party and GOPe alike. The GOPe would prefer someone else but they cant find anyone who wants to run against her and are afraid to get into a public fight over it.
She has experience in statewide politics as a former Secretary of state, she’s got wide name recognition, is careful with her words, and is honest as the day is long.

A Large New Tax on Small Business
The latest ObamaCare levy takes effect Jan. 1.
Dec. 29, 2013 6:27 p.m. ET
ObamaCare includes so many taxes that it’s hard to keep track, but one of the worst takes effect on Jan. 1. This beaut is a levy on health insurance premiums that targets the small business and individual markets.
At $8 billion in 2014 and $101 billion over the next decade, the insurance tax is larger than ObamaCare’s taxes on medical devices and prescription drugs combined. The Internal Revenue Service classifies the tax as a “fee” but it functions like an excise tax on premiums. The IRS collects an annual flat amount specified by the Affordable Care Act to be allocated among the insurers according to market share. ..
