The doctor won’t see you? Analysts warn ObamaCare plans could resemble Medicaid
Fox News ^ | Dec 26, 2013 | FoxNews

Those signing up for private health care coverage on the ObamaCare exchanges may be in for an unpleasant surprise -- they'll have insurance, but they might have trouble getting the doctor to see them.

Just as with Medicaid, analysts warn that if payments get too low, many doctors might start refusing to see patients. That will leave more and more patients jockeying to see fewer and fewer doctors.

They emphasize, then, that having health insurance won't necessarily translate into access to health care.

They will just revoke the medical licenses of doctors who refuse these patients (Massachusetts is putting such a plan into effect right now).

We knew this was going to happen. All the new Medicaid enrollees will discover they can’t get doctors to take them, so they will be right back to waiting in emergency rooms when they get sick. The problem will be worse than it was before Obamacare screwed up everyone’s insurance.

Won’t be an issue for long. Expect that physicians MUST accept Medicare, Medicaid and Obamacare insurance as a CONDITION OF LICENSURE.

“What good will your $1000 premium and $10000 deductible do you if you can’t find a doctor to treat you?”

And yet Debbie Washerwoman-Shitz and Nazi Pelousey are saying that the RATs are going “to run” on Obamacare. There’s a “political bloodbath” coming and it’s going to include a lot of RATs loosing their seats in the Congress, hopefully along with a bunch of ineffective RINOs..

I would assume that if you have $10,000 deductible the Doctor would see you until the $10,000 dollars ran out.

How will the government force doctors, especially specialists, to TAKE patients?

The Medicaid expansion is going to be deadly. Huge growth in the Medicaid rolls, many with a TON of pre-existing conditions that are itching for treatment, and no growth in the provider base.

The non-Medicaid Obamare plans on their face aren't bad for providers -- higher reimbursement rates than Medicare in most places, and far higher than Medicaid. However, most people who are enrolling are those who are getting subsidies and electing Bronze or Silver plans with very high deductibles for most services that they have zero hope of actually having the cash to pay. The provider agreements put the credit risk of deductibles squarely on the providers, and providers are going to figure out very quickly that they are not going to get paid anything on any service which is subject to deductibles.

My heart doc is in his late 50's with 10-15-20 good years of professional life left in him.

He recently sold his private practice, and is currently working for a hospital group.

He told me that his hours went from 80 per week to 45-50 per week, and he will cut back further when obamacare kicks in.

He said if the gummint gets to aggressive he will just retire, killing off 10-20 years of an expert heart specialist services.

He doesn't need the money and won't put up with too much bullshit and he HATES obama.

I don't want to lose him as a doc, but I understand his position, and agree with him.

The health care system is going to see thousands of docs bailing because of the stupid gummint restrictions and regulations and we will be stuck with the slugs that are akin to union certified "pubic" school teecheers.

? I've read that a couple times but am not any closer to understanding what you're saying.

All the new Medicaid enrollees will discover they can’t get doctors to take them

That might be true in some places; here every provider in every hospital-affiliated clinic is accepting new Medicaid patients if they are accepting any new patients at all, including specialists. All the hospitals adopted this policy.

I imagine soon doctors will be compelled to accept all obamacare plans. I imagine it will become illegal to pay cash for services and even more of a severe punishment if you pay cash and do not have an approved obamacare plan. Politicians and the politically connected will be exempt. Sometimes you just have to take a pill.

“I imagine it will become illegal to pay cash for services “

That was the plan under Hillarycare — now Obamacare is doing the same thing in two steps, that Hillary couldn’t accomplish because she tried it all at once, but the goal is still the same.

No. Doctor bills insurance. Insurance reduces to “contract or allowable rate”. Deductible not met. You pay contract rate. Doctor pissed, you are pissed. If you skip the insurance billing, doesn’t count toward your meeting the deductible .

You know, this reminds me of the timeshare overselling scandals of the 1980s. Remember when Jim Bakker oversold thousands of "lifetime memberships" at his supposed luxury resort Heritage, USA, but only one 500-room hotel was ever built?

Legislation was eventually passed to ensure that deeds or contracts matched the availability of the property. With Obamacare, everyone is getting insurance for health care, but there is nothing in place to match the supply of actual health care with the demand for it.

Obama is overselling access to health care.

It has already been hard to see a doctor in a timely fashion for years. I rarely get sick enough to see a doc, and when I do, it is critical enough that I don’t want to wait until next week to be seen. When the phone receptionist says “We have an opening on Friday of next week”, I tell her that I will be either dead or recovered by then. That ploy usually works.
