Peshawar, Daily 500 kilogram solid waste including infectious injection & drip from different wards came out from lady reading hospital Peshawar. That is all out to roads that spread infection in society but no one takes serious the matter. According to the investigation daily 400 kilogram solid waste of different ward, including emergency, operation theatre and from surgery ward out. That are all goes to the three different sites of the lady reading hospital. Health department installed the incinerator in hospital for the trash of the infectious waste. But the current condition show that incinerator didnt used since 3 years, because blood bags, expire medicine & dust bin in incinerators. It found during investigation spider web on incinerator machine. The supervisor of Incinerator Mohammad Farooq said during November to march because of low pressure incinerator didnt work well. According to him daily 200 kilogram solid waste come out from different wards and we daily remove the infectious waste in incinerator. He claims that because of Sui Gas low pressure the incinerator cannot work properly. He confirmed that incinerator was used one day before but he could not give the explosion how the spider web came in incinerator machine. The supervisor inform that health department didnt permit us to trash the blood bag in incinerator machine , but we trash the HCV and HIV infected bags in Incinerator machine. Query about how much waste came out from today from different ward, he didnt show the waste neither proves the how much waste and when was trash in incinerator. The switch board of electricity of the incinerator is fully damage and 4 employees of the hospital on duty in incinerator machine and getting salary from the health department of KPK government but each one didnt work on ground. During investigation we found that hospital management make waste management unit whose informed all the sweeper and nursing staff , that three kind of waste will be collect from different wards of the hospital. Only syringe , drips and other infectious waste will be sent to incinerator and other non infected items will sent to roads, but on ground during investigation we found that all waste goes to the road even used syringe , drips and different infected injection on road side in the front of lady reading hospital Peshawar. Drug user whose using syringe for putting the needle their bodies, dont know about the how much its infected and what type of germs infect the needle. During investigation I also found that all solid waste goes to garbage on front side of lady reading hospital and drug user whose site near garbage , if someone try to take picture the drug user threaten to the people, if someone take picture we will attack you through these infected syringe . After warning I left the area and didnt takes picture of the drug user.
During checking the record of the Incinerator the interesting facts which show the negligence of the hospital management, that since 2012 they didnt sent a single letter the Sui Gas official about low pressure in hospital. The newly appointed chief executive of lady reading hospital Dr Muzafar Uddin gives his opinion about the current situation of the incinerator , he said that provincial government install new incinerator in hospital and its will start properly very soon. He said that LRH management pays monthly 175000 rupees to the cantonment board Peshawar for the removal of the solid waste of the hospital. The lady reading hospital was established in 1924 in Peshawar and its the historical hospital of the provincial capital of KPK.
