Duck Dynasty's $400m empire booms despite gay sex row: Walmart SELLS OUT of show merchandise...
The London Daily Mail ^ | December 20, 2013 | Sara Nathan and Will Payne in W. Monroe, Louisiana

Posted on 12/21/2013 3:27:57 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

As the future of their show lies in doubt, the Duck Dynasty clan are still making millions thanks to their megabucks Walmart merchandising deal, MailOnline can today reveal.

The Robertson family has a merchandise empire that is estimated by Forbes to be worth about $400million - and their deal with Walmart makes up around half of this.

And today, as Walmart refused to comment on the future of their relationship with the TV family, just one glimpse at the chainstore's website shows fans are flocking to buy Duck Dynasty merchandise amid the furor over patriach Phil Robertson's homophobic comments.

Meanwhile, MailOnline can reveal a publicist from A&E DID accompany Phil to his interview with GQ magazine-but was NOT there when he made his incendiary comments.

Walmarts sells a huge array of Duck Dynasty merchandise-from T-shirts to camo bedding, posters, watches, toy trucks, camo chairs, clothing, jewellery and even bottle openers.

Today, as Phil Robertson's close-knit family insisted they would not film the hit A&E show without him following his suspension by the network, fans tweeted they were rushing to Walmart.

However, others pointed out that this support merely puts more money into A&E's pockets as well, with one tweeting: 'Loving that Tea People are rushing to Walmart to Duck Dynasty swag in protest of A&E who OWNS the merchandising.'(continued)

I love how the Left always conflates traditional Americans and their values & beliefs with "tea-bagging rethuglican racist homophobic cousin-kissers" or whatever phrase they're using this week.

The reason Duck Dynasty stuff is selling so well is because, despite what the media and the politicians say, the majority of the country is heterosexual and getting very tired of hearing it. Maybe this backlash will start to straighten things out.

It is very refreshing to see America stand up about this.

Just saying. This politically correct censorship has gone on for far too long.

Now, America, don’t let yourselves be lulled back to sleep.

Some Freepers have been posting on other threads that A&E gets the bulk of the profits from sales of DD brands at Walmart.

It is said to prevent A&E from profiting, that people should order from the duck commander website where the profits go the family.

Who has the merchandizing rights (and profit) from all these WM and other sales? Does A&E have them?

It would seem to me that if you want to hurt A&E, stop buying Duck Products if they have the rights.

How exactly are there two separate merchandizing lines?

Is Duck Commander totally disassociated from Duck Dynasty?

No buy all the stuff you can.

Just buy from Duck Commander. Not Duck Dynasty.

I think that is the important distinction.

“This politically correct censorship has gone on for far too long.”.....

I truely hope that the entire Christian nation steps up and supports Phil Robertson and his courage to state his beliefs. In the long run, he just may be the one who gets this country straightened out and back on the track to common sense. Anyone can plainly see, “common sense” isn’t too common anymore. Go Phil!!!!!!

It’s a split between the Robertson’s, their production company and A&E, from what I can gather.

I'm curious how they know how many people are buying from Wal-Mart's website.

Essentially, yes. Duck Commander is the company that is owned by the Robertsons. They make hunting equipment and also “add-on” merchandise such as hunting videos, cookbooks for wild game, etc.

“Duck Dynasty” is the name of a TV show that is owned, copyrighted and trademarked by A&E. Much of profits from DD merchandise go primarily to A&E.

True, buying DD merchandise will fatten the profits of A&E but I don’t think it matters in the long run. Sporting DD gear in public is saying something along the lines of (pick any that apply):

-I like the Robertsons and what they stand for
-I like a wholesome TV show that incorporates family/Christian values
-I am proud to be a Redneck just like these guys
-Uncle Si is the ladies man that I aspire to one day be
-Enough of the politically correct, homo-driven agenda

DD merchandise, even though it profits A&E does NOT say:
-I am a homo and proud
-I really, really love A&E just because it is A&E and this camo stuff just happens to profit my favorite network

Go ahead, buy your DD gifts for Christmas this year. Anyone sporting it in public will make a much larger statement and carry a bigger cultural impact than the money that finds its way to A&E will eventually have.

Exactly. That is the thing with this latest PC dustup.

If we don’t buy it, the media will say we side with A & E and the non-purchase of the show merchandise is a boycott against Duck Dynasty.

Instead, we should buy it until it is all gone and then proudly wear it. Gay Pride? Watch out for Straight Pride.

That thought initially crossed my mind as well but we are talking about far leftist execs in NY and LA. Recent statements by the A&E CEO demonstrate that she is pushing the far left homo agenda, ratings be damned.

Much like those that run CNN and MSNBC, pushing a leftist agenda is more important to them than the actual ratings needed for survival as a network.

If it is a marketing ploy than it will rival “New Coke” as an example of what not to do for maintaining long-term profits.
