Please please please. Santorum-Walker 2016! That would be the complete rebirth of America! Come on GOP/Tea Party. Let’s do this! We can get this done!!! Two of the best politicians in history! Well upper 10 anyway.
Thankfully my property taxes in Mississippi went to zero after turning 65.
Wow! Is that for everyone over 65? That is outstanding!!!! How lucky for you. You have absolutely no worries. That is a wonderful thing. I am so happy for you. Now you just have to pay insurance every year and that is it.
I guess Walker is no Wiecker. Scott, I hope you get it done. If you do, with WI being a right to work state, people will to WI.
Scott Walker seeks to change Wisconsin’s tax structure — end either income or property tax.
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
If he does this, half of Minnesota, the republican half, will move across the river.
Except that my wife still owes quite a bit in student loans to pay for her Masters Degree. Big bucks! And both our vehicles are over 12 years old, and the house needs some repairs, that if I were younger I could have done easily by myself. Insurance on our property, our vehicles, our health (questionable), typical household bills, food, gas, on and on.
The Homestead Exemption for personal homes used to be common.”
We have a homestead exemption in Texas plus another exemption kicks in when you turn 65. Doesn’t allow the rate to increase so they came up with another clever way to get around it by increasing the value of your home. This is a double whammy because not only do your taxes go up but your residential insurance goes up.
But we have to keep building all those new schools to accommodate all those ESL students!
Amen Hostage.
Inheritance tax is part of the federal income tax code ... so it would go away under a federal income tax code repeal ;)
Property tax is local, not federal. But being a homeowner I would sure favor eliminating property tax in my municipality in favor of a consumption based tax... especially since my area has more visitors each year than Disneyland!
Granted there is a federal inheritance tax that would still have to be paid, unless the property and home was in a family trust. But many states also have an inheritance tax on top of the federal tax.
It would also be tricky to eliminate property taxes because they are generally used to fund public education, and the federal courts have often demanded that states pay for this the way the courts want, or else face horrible fines, and many states are under court order, forcing them to keep property taxes.
Which, to my mind is yet another reason to abolish them, and other “perpetual taxes”, for single families who own their property.
Property taxes on the big farm went up substantially. The small farm, not at all. Two different counties.
Feckin’ liberals moving out of Dane County and moving to Iowa County and bringing their stupidity with them! Grrrrrr!
WI ran a surplus last year. By doing this, he can lock down spending, because a future administration would have to re-institute the income tax in order to spend more.
