Was Rick Santorum Right About Polygamy After All?
The Daily Beast ^ | December 16, 2013 | Justin Miller

The Republican was once savaged for suggesting polygamy could become legal if the Supreme Court killed anti-sodomy laws. Now a judge has ruled against Utah’s anti-polygamy statute.

A decade ago, Rick Santorum said polygamy, among other things, would be allowed if bans on sodomy were struck down by the Supreme Court.

“Sometimes I hate it when what I predict comes true,” the once and likely future Republican presidential candidate tweeted Sunday after a federal judge decriminalized polygamy in Utah.

Judge Clark Waddoups ruled late Friday that parts of the state’s law are unconstitutional, based on a Supreme Court ruling that legalized sodomy across the nation.

In 2003, referring to the landmark gay rights case Lawrence v. Texas before the Supreme Court, Santorum told the Associated Press:

“If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery.”(continued)

Reading a few dozen comments, it's clear that most of the responding libtards are utopian bliss-ninny fools. "What's the harm if a bunch of adults want to have sex and get married?"

First-level-thinking utopian morons.

They can't even stretch far enough to see that every society that legalizes polygamy winds up like the muslims or the throwback Mormons, with evil old men trading nieces as wives like the old perverts they are. The poor girls are raised in this "your job is to please your husband as wife #7" environment, and it's a hard cultural brainwash and mindf**k to overcome, that leads to many social pathologies.

One man and one woman = one marriage was the time-tested pillar of modern Western civilization. It tied their mutual loyalties together, where poly "marriages" become snake pits of back stabbers and baby poisoners. Just look at the muslim world today.

The out of wedlock birthrate has gone from an historical level of below 5% (solid social cement) to nearly 50% in 50 years. Looking forward, "the bridge is out!" Watch out below!

Idiots. That's why I wrote Alas, Brave New Babylon. For the record. As we shall shortly see.

“Rick Santorum said polygamy, among other things, would be allowed if bans on sodomy were struck down by the Supreme Court. “

Well of course he was right. Once marriage between a man and a woman is deemed to be just one of many types of marriage; why would not multiple marriages be legal?
On what grounds could it be opposed?

In The Iliad, the king of Argos, Agamemnon, sacrifices his daughter Iphigenia to the Gods to assure good sailing weather to Troy. In Agamemnon, the first play of Aeschylus's Oresteia trilogy, Agamemnon is murdered by his wife, Clytemnestra, and her lover, Aegisthus as revenge for sacrificing Iphigenia. In The Libation Bearers, the second play of the Orestia, Agamemnon's son Orestes returns home to take revenge on his mother for murdering his father.

Orestes ultimately does murder his mother, and afterward is tormented by The Furies, beings who personify the anger of the dead.

Orestes being tormented by the Furies has been depicted by a number of artists.

A common thought is that polygamy oppresses women, which from what I've seen it usually does in varying degress.

I think the big push will come from the polyamory crowd, women wanting two hubbies and maybe even a lesbian thrown in for good measure.

No, pedophilia.

Age of consent for adult with minor child of at least 14 years of age. But then the 14 years of age requirement can creep to 12 and younger if it’s documented as consensual.

Seems unlikely doesn’t it? But then I thought the same about homosexual ‘marriage’ about 10 years ago.

Still trying to figure out why anybody cares what Rick Santorums opinion on polygamy is.

One of the main problems with polygamy is that you end up with a lot of “lost boys”. The old men drive the boys out so they can get their sisters.

Go out west some time. The fundamental mormons out there are causing all kinds of problems with this.

Thanks, I was wondering too. I used to love reading Greek mythology when I was younger, but I’ve forgotten most of it now.

“Not quite. The Utah decision does not recognize, in Santorum’s words, a “right to polygamy.” The judge said the right to not be discriminated against under the First and Fourteenth amendments applies to the plaintiffs.

The family of Kody Brown, subject of the TLC reality show Sister Wives, says it is polygamist because it belongs to a fundamentalist Mormon church. The Browns sued Utah in 2011, arguing that the anti-polygamy law violated their right to privacy based on the Lawrence decision. Bigamy, or having multiple active marriage licenses, is a third-degree felony in Utah. Utah outlawed the practice, prevalent among Mormons, so Congress would accept it as a state in 1896. (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints banned polygamy in 1890.)

If Utah doesn’t prosecute an adulterer for sleeping with several women, the judge wrote, why should it prosecute a polygamist doing the same under one roof?

In other words, Utah polygamists can’t be discriminated against now, but they still can’t get married.”
