A Government Separated from the People Cannot Stand
American Thinker ^ | 12/13/2013 | Lawrence Sellin

In his 1952 book The Origins of Totalitarian Democracy, Israeli historian J. L. Talmon described a political system in which lawfully elected representatives rule a nation state whose citizens, although granted the right to vote, have little or no participation in the decision-making process of government.

The federal government has become such a system, an entity unto itself operating outside of Constitutional constraints and unaccountable to the American people. The United States is now controlled by a Democratic and Republican ruling class that transcends government and sees itself as distinct from the rest of society and as the only element that may act on its behalf. The ruling class considers those who resist it as having no moral or intellectual right, and, only reluctantly, any civil right to do so.

One of the best, and most ominous, articles summarizing our problems I've read this year.

I watched Ted Cruz during his valiant effort to halt the disaster called Obamacare. I hope you watched it as well. If he used it once, he used the phrase “...we no longer listen to the people, our constituents...” over a hundred times. And he was right...they don’t. And the fact is, THEY NO LONGER NEED TO.
I’ve sent my little rant on this topic before but Ted’s honest comment compels me to do so again.
*************
WHY THE POLITICAL RULING CLASS NO LONGER LISTENS TO US!
Among others, Thomas Jefferson warned that the financial disaster we now face would be but one of many problems paper money would visit upon us if we allowed our “leaders” to remove the backing from the currency, to wit:
“When the servants of the people are paid with something other than that which the people themselves have produced (i.e. the real, tangible products of their labors or some fixed and real medium of that exchange), the roles of master and servant will be reversed.”
It was believed by Roger Sherman and a majority of those at the Constitutional Convention that un-backed currency would so damage the fabric of the nation that they ATTEMPTED to prohibit it with these few words at Article 1, Section 10, requiring the states to enforce the prohibition: “No State shall…make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts;”
If the people and their states grew inattentive to this matter (and they have!), Jefferson also saw this problem ahead:
In a letter to John Taylor in 1816, he wrote, “And I sincerely believe, with you, that banking establishments are more dangerous than standing armies; and that the principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, under the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale.”
We have been “…swindling futurity…” for a long time and this is now where we find ourselves. If the government, through its banker masters at the Federal Reserve, can create “money” from thin air, they certainly don’t need ours every April 15th. That annual sheep shearing is simply an attempt to vacuum enough of the excess paper from the system to keep the rest of us from catching on to the biggest theft ring in the history of man. They have now created so much that their attempt is failing and failing badly to a point where all but the dullest among us (Obama voters and his growing cadres of personal and corporate welfare beneficiaries) are starting to “get it.”
If you understood that last paragraph, you can now make the small leap to an understanding as to why the “progressive” utopian welfare state hacks in Washington don’t give a damn WHAT you think. Their power to create all the “money” they need to fuel their infernal machine and fill the gaping maws of enough of those hoards of welfare constituents to assure their perpetual re-election means that — ready — THEY NO LONGER NEED YOU! They have become, as Mr. Jefferson predicted, our MASTERS.
That they are taking down a nation and a system that has provided more wealth, safety and abundance to more people than any other in history matters not to them. Failing to grasp the lesson of the French Revolution, they believe themselves to be above the impending disaster.
We’re running out of time to get this increasingly rapacious beast back into the cage from which we have carelessly allowed it to escape.
Dick Bachert
PS: I was a 3 year member of the national board of CATS (Citizens for an Alternative Tax System), the precursor to the current Fair Tax organization. I fully support the concept of a CONSUMPTION TAX over the current Marxist INCOME TAX. That said, UNTIL WE GET BACK TO HONEST “MONEY”, WERE REARRANGING DECK CHAIRS ON A SINKING SHIP.

CWII PING! Fantastic article summarizing our position today in our nation.

About the CWII Ping List

The CWII Ping List is short for Civil War II. It is NOT a list of people advocating another Civil War in America. It is a list of people who are interested in the parallels between the Civil War (or War Between the States, if you prefer) and our current situation, or more generally are noting the references to a 'coming Civil War' that are made in the press.

FR rules do not permit advocating for the overthrow of the Republic, and I am not aware of anyone doing so on the list. Still many do see that as the political climate worsens we may be heading in a direction that makes such a conflict all but inevitable, particularly if other avenues for resolving our differences are taken away. Such as widespread vote fraud by leftists making elections meaningless, or a small cadre of judges over-ruling all attempts to end destructive policies over the clear will of the people.

The correct keyword tag for the Civil War II ping list is "CWII". Please Freep Mail me to get on the list

The ruling elites of a now hopelessly corrupt political system are just one major blunder away from revolution.

One wonders what form that blunder will take.

“Both the Democrat and Republican parties know that exposing Obama would reveal their dereliction of duty, their complicity in undermining the Constitution, and their continuous flouting of the rule of law. They know that the truth would topple the corrupt status quo and terminate their exclusive grip on political power, allowing the American people to regain control of their government. The political and media elite will do anything to prevent that.”

I suspect it will be financial. Remember that the Crash of 2008 was easily avoided. The Fed had already set the precedent of bailing out even foreign hedge funds (Long Term Capital Management under Greenspan) as well as Bear Stearns, which was nearly identical to Lehman Bros, in terms of size and function. Regardless of whether you think the Govt. should bail out the TBTF, the fact is that they had no idea what the Lehman bankruptcy would spin into, it was a major FUBAR and a completely avoidable error in judgement by Paulson and the rest of Bush's finance team.

It's big, it's complicated and no one really understands the interconnections. At some point I think more mistakes will be made and it will crash even harder than it did in 2008.

one major blunder away

Someone is guessing their other blunders didn't count for a beginning? Was very well planned and thought out by the elites. As John Paul Jones said ... We .............!!!

And if one didn't believe that before yesterday, the budget bill is a pretty good sign that the author is correct and you were being too optimistic.

I still have not verified that it includes House approval of the United Nations Treaty on Small Arms, but if so that is such a low-down move as to be treasonous. Unbelievable really, so I am hoping it's not true.

GOP Surrender to Dems on Budget, does it include anti-gun treaty approval?

Good article.
My FR profile which has been up for many years also addresses that problem:

Here is my take on politics

There is no Constitutional justification, or encouragement for us having a two party system.

So why do we have this ugly situation?

Two political gangs, the Republicans, and the Socialists (who have taken over the democrat party) divide the political spoils between them, and make sure no outside candidate, or third political party can ever get elected-with a few minor exceptions.

As a right wing democrat who doesn't have a party anymore, I mostly vote for the stupid, politically inept, anti labor Republicans, because I feel they do less damage to the country and family, and are more suppportive of our Constitution, than are the Socialists, who want to destroy this country.

So you can't really expect either gang to represent you, unless you are a member in good standing, or can buy the influence, either with money, or by delivering votes.

Well, when one considers how carelessly European leaders decided to go to war in 1914 and how unable they were to acknowledge that by the end of 1914, that they ought not to continue but to negotiate a peace, one knows how their carelessness in other matters can ruin us all.

Let me correct the headline to more accurately portray what the reality is going to be:

A PEOPLE SEPARATED FROM GOVERNMENT WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

As Mr.B noted - why do you think they stockpiled 6 billion rounds of hollow point ammunition?

Yeah… I know - target practice. Enough to wage 20 Iraq Wars.

The tyrants are way ahead of We The People whom are going to be more than ‘separated’. We are going to be EXTERMINATED.

As people wake up to the current trajectory of government, more and more realize that the destruction of rights and usurpation of powers is a far greater danger to their liberties than any Constitutional Convention could be, especially considering that 2/3 of the surviving states would have to ratify any proposed Amendments.

It is way past time to redefine and refine the relationship the federal government has with the states and the people. Since infinite money enables infinite government, at the very least, we must restrain and constrain the federal government’s ability to spend without constraint, paid for by borrowing or printing.
