North Korea announced Thursday it had executed the uncle of leader Kim Jong Un, declaring him a traitor who tried to overthrow the state.
The announcement came only days after Pyongyang announced through state media that Jang Song Thaek -- long considered the country's No. 2 power -- had been removed from all his posts because of allegations of corruption, drug use, gambling, womanizing and leading a "dissolute and depraved life."
State news agency KCNA said a tribunal examined Jang's crimes, including "attempting to overthrow the state by all sorts of intrigues and despicable methods with a wild ambition to grab the supreme power of our party and state."
The report called him "a traitor to the nation" and "worse than a dog."

‘Worse than a dog’? I’m not sure how to take that. I’m reading it as ‘worse than awesome’.
If Un is having uncles put to death, it kind of sounds like this is spinning out of control for him. We might see some real change there before his ‘term’ expires. That- and if the uncle moved against him, then it sounds like the youngster isn’t up to the job.

If he is willing to execute his own uncle; that sends a pretty strong message to everyone else who might contemplate a takeover.
The definition of the job here is to keep the power. Obviously the uncle was wrong, and the youngster demonstrated that he is more than capable of having his relatives killed.
But if you think of the job as of being a responsible leader with a good plan... there probably are no such leaders in North Korea. There are precious few of them even in the USA.

Was some exotic method used to execute the dear uncle or just a goodn old fashioned firing squad?

No, I think that the definition of the job is keeping NK from becoming a Chinese 'protectorate'. I see that the PLA is conducting 'exercises' with little or no notice on the NK border this week.
Looks like they were short of barbecue meat. I would be cautious if I were Rodman heading over to that hell hole.
Except for the getting executed part, dissolute and depraved sounds kinda hot.
