Sen. Chris Murphy, Taking On the NRA After Newtown
The Daily Beast ^ | December 10, 2013 | David Freedlander

The Senate’s youngest member, Connecticut Democrat Chris Murphy, held his fellow lawmakers’ feet to the fire on gun control. A year after Newtown, he says he’s not giving up the fight. On December 14, 2012, Chris Murphy, then still a congressman representing a mostly suburban Connecticut district, was at the Bridgeport City Hall for a press conference on renewable energy. It was the holiday season, and he was planning to take the rest of the afternoon off and take the train to New York with his wife and two kids.

Speaking now, a year after the shooting, Murphy still sounds rattled, and he trembles with anger over Washington’s failure to do much to prevent another one.

Well, Mr. Murphy, you're a Senator, not God. Get over yourself. Some things you can't do squat to prevent.

The damage done by the nutcase shooter might have been mitigated somewhat if you idiots had let people at least have the option to have the means of defending themselves against the nutcase.

That, you can do something about--repeal that "gun free" school zones thing, and let the staff choose to arm themselves.

“They really believe that the best way to get guns out of the hands of criminals is to put guns into the hands of both good guys and bad guys, and just hope that the good guys shoot the bad guys,” he said. “That is the ethic behind Stand Your Ground laws. That is part of the resistance to background checks. There are a lot of people who do not want to pass new gun laws because they really do think that the free market will solve every problem, including the gun violence problem.”

Read the first sentence. We do not want the bad guys to have guns, but the reality is if bad guys want guns they will get them because they are criminals and don't obey the laws.

This idiot wants to disarm the only people that obey the laws, by definition, the law abiding citizen, and put them at the mercy of every gang banger or crazed shooter that gets access to a weapon.

There are hundreds of millions of guns in the USA and there is no way that the criminals will ever turn in their weapons, and there is no way that I, nor many like minded citizens will either.

Senator Murphy, banning guns in the USA will be as effective as banning Bushmills or Guiness in Ireland.

Or using a drawing of a gun as the background image for ANY crime, including stabbings. They’re clever, them MSM folks.

They never talk about the Newtowns that happen on a monthly basis in the inner-city hellholes.

In one breath he calls us paranoid “darwinists” for thinking that the government is going to “steal” our guns. In the next breath he tells us that he wants to use the US government to deprive law abiding Americans from their right to keep and bear arms. I’m sure this kind of rhetoric plays well to his democratic choir but the rest of us recognize him as the typical fork tongued, gun grabbing, liar that he is. Keep throwing yourself up against the wall Murphy. We’ll see who the fittest is.

People also forget that just before the Newtown shootings the reprehensible Jamie Foxx was on some late-night TV talk show plugging his latest flick Django Unchained. During the interview, he allowed that, for him, the best part of the movie was shooting the white people. Naturally, the New York studio audience laughed and applauded its approval of these remarks. Scant weeks later, these same Yankee libs were acting all outraged when white children were actually murdered--And Jamie Foxx was never held to account for his reckless comments.

Well Senator Murphy, good luck with that. You surly have an uphill battle when you take on the NRA and try to push your gun control agenda. It can't be easy trying to fight when all the facts, common sense, and history are against you. What have you got? A fascist agenda and emotion.

The battle in and around Newtown must be nearly impossible. For you. All the NRA or any freedom-loving and security-minded person has to ask is "Would anything you are proposing have stopped what happened, or stop something similar from happening in the future?" The answer of course is no. So-called "gun control" only works on the law abiding. Mentally unstable people determined to commit heinous acts breaking 20 existing laws are not going to be in any way deterred by having to break at 21st, 22nd, or 100th law.

It is really is past the time that all gun manufacturers leave the New England states.

As for the comments of this foolish Senator, it’s simple. Free people don’t trust those like him in government. They want to disarm us and control us. We are not going to fall for it.

This stupid idiot is letting emotions, which dems are prone to, to over rule the US Constitution, one piece at a time.

They ignore the other methods that people use to kill, bombs, cars, fence post, shoe laces, hands, feet, screw drivers, hammers, baseball bats. Many may not cause this amount of damage, but they are instruments that kill.

They forget the Morrow Bldg common fertilizer was the weapon. Only credit I can give slick was that mcveigh did not sit on death row for decades as most killers do.

Nicki Read, age 8, raped, strangled to death with her own shoe laces, and thrown in the river. Her killer even pretended to hunt for what they thought was a missing child. Until blood was found in his car. He confessed to the crime, but still sits on TN death row appealing his devil’s heart away to go free.

My Jeremy, beat to death with a 2 ft section of 4 x 4, just so some sociopath could get his jollies to see what it felt like to kill. A1st degree down to 2nd degree, Bad plea deal took 2 yrs The 20 yrs was a middle of the road sentence, max was 30. First parole hearing TEN MONTHS later. That was the first of 6. I forced him to serve out every day of that 20 year sentence, minus what I could not stop, ‘good behavior’ days. So the sociopath now walks the streets of TN a free man. capable of killing again. And the stupid gov’t wonders why I CCW!

Victims families never forget, and it is hard to let it all go. Why some blame the weapon is beyond me. When Reason tells you it took a Person to do the crime.

“They really believe that the best way to get guns out of the hands of criminals is to put guns into the hands of both good guys and bad guys, and just hope that the good guys shoot the bad guys,”

Not really. I'd rather criminals not have guns. However, criminals will always have guns. You can't legislate nor enforce them out of existence. All you are proposing is taking firearms out of the hands of the law abiding. Why do you want to disarm innocent people in the face of armed criminals? Are you a sociopath? Are you a criminal yourself? You do know that every place, city, state, or country, that has tried strict "gun control" has experienced increases in violent crime. And you want to try that again? What is wrong with you?

“That is the ethic behind Stand Your Ground laws.

Wrong. Geez, if you're going to make public statements on an issue, and try to legislate on an issue, at least get your facts straight. You sound like a fuzzy-thinking ill-informed fool. Stand your ground has nothing to do with private ownership of firearms. SYG is about whether or not a person has a legal obligation to retreat when faced with violence or if he/she can "stand his/her ground" and protect themselves, their property, or others nearby rather than retreat. Yes, it could be with a firearm, barehanded, or with any weapon at hand. It has nothing to do with "gun control."

That is part of the resistance to background checks.

Wrong again. You really should get your facts straight Senator or STFU. Seriously, STFU. Background checks are a reality, we have them. What you mean is "universal" background checks - requiring a background check for private sales. This will, like any other law, only impact the law-abiding and not impede criminal behavior. It will be as ineffective as passing a law requiring all private drug transactions occur at a pharmacy with a Doctor's prescription. Think that would stop the illegal drug trade? Of course not. So why would any rational person think a similar law would stop the illegal arms trade?

There are a lot of people who do not want to pass new gun laws because they really do think that the free market will solve every problem, including the gun violence problem.”

It can and it will. The silly thing is, there are people who think they know better and that a fascist big-government is the answer to any problem.

What Sen. Murphy is trying to do is try to propose an even stricter gun control law that will simply and most likely land up in any one of the federal courts, including the USSC or the Supremes in other words.

First off, my condolences to you in the horrific loss of your son and the battle you fought to keep his killer behind bars as long as possible. TN law must really suck to allow parole hearings to begin so quickly after incarceration.

Secondly: So the sociopath now walks the streets of TN a free man. All I can say is that you're obviously a better person than I can envision myself being in similar circumstances. Your CCW requires no justification to any man.

Finally, a gentle fact reminder: Alfred P. Murrah Building

Who could forget that if you are over 30. Fertilizer, it was 1 of the only things Slick did right, did not take to long to try, convict, and send to the death chamber McVeigh.

While we cannot get the FT Hood traitor, shooter tried!

A lot of issue is no uniformity with in our injustice system. I am not stupid, I know our early prisons were hell holes. But our modern ones have some of the best we as a society can offer and rehab felons, To date that has been a dismal effort by do gooders.

Each state sets there own laws, and own incarceration rates, if you think TN is to lax, you should look at Mississippi, it is even less time, they do not put money into prison building. Kali is the worst. Because he had sat in jail for 2 years they counted that as 4 yrs off his sentence, because it is 1 for 1 ‘good behavior’ so they can open up beds in prison. No excuse for taking so long, all a PD has to do is say I'm not ready or I need a 30 day physche test to get delays.

For small petty crimes we have a 11 month 29 day jail, but due to the repeat offenses, they serve 30% or less much of it on the weekends, for things like DUI or petty theft. No warrants issued if you fail to turn up.

While we were going through the 2 year monthly trips to court you saw those type people. 1 persons PD stood up in front of the judge and said ‘your Honor my client is not in your court room today, because he is in another judges down the hall’, result a new time was set. No revoking of bail, no sending the bailiff to the other judges’ court room to have him rearrested. This 1 man tied up 2 courts, 2 PD and 2 prosecutors, and 2 judges. My suggestion is all repeat offenders see the exact same 1 judge, PD and Prosecutor. That way the idiot judge can keep track of how many times the fool has been arrested!

Not many states have 3 strike laws, or if they do don't enforce them. Which is why I suggest using uninhabited islands we own or desert areas and build a ton of prisons in them, 1 island for each sex. Where death awaits from sharks or dying in the desert. I'd also support a return of public square eliminations of killers like Manson and his ilk.

Just the crime rate of Memphis alone is all the requirement any one needs to do CCW. Besides it is my 2A right. I strongly object to our local commie news paper providing a link to who carries, where they live. It is not the public, or criminals business. Some of those big wig DEMS and RINOS who object to your right to own guns or carry, are on that list! HYPOCRITS!
