President Vladimir Putin tightened his control over Russia's media on Monday by dissolving the main state news agency and replacing it with an organization that is to promote Moscow's image abroad.

The move to abolish RIA Novosti and create a news agency to be known as Rossiya Segodnya is the second in two weeks strengthening Putin's hold on the media as he tries to reassert his authority after protests against his rule.

Most Russian media outlets are already loyal to Putin, and opponents get little air time, but the shake-up underlined their importance to Putin keeping power and the Kremlin's concern about the president's ratings and image.....

What has to be done by force in Russia is accomplished willingly by our media.

There is little surprise when dictators act in dictatorial ways.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I believe Obama complained to Chrissy Tingle Matthews about the media and he included 'Progressive' media in his complaints. If he can get away with it, he'll do it .... and no one has stopped any of his lawlessness yet.

Obama didn’t have to do that her, with Sissy Chrissy Matthews dripping on his leg over Obama, and the rest of the lusting press, they hang on every word Obama speaks and they all leave snail trails to the bathroom after Obama speaks.

RIA-Novosti was founded in 1941 and underwent two reorganizations in 1961 and 1989. I have the feeling that this does not change Putin’s real problem.

The urban intelligentsia and liberals largely hate his guts but his core supporters are in the small towns and Russian countryside. They’re the ones who’ve benefited most from his policies. And playing to nationalism and the Russian Orthodox faith have been among his strengths.

Tightening his grip upon Russia’s media do nothing to address Putin’s real political vulnerability. A part of the country has already moved on.

In fact RIAN was one communist propaganda outlet back to Soviet times. Famous defector Yuri Bezmenov was their employee.

We have a state-dominated media in the U.S., too, it’s known as CBS, ABC, NBC, FNC, MSNBC and CNN.

I'll make it easier for them--they merely should pick a number below:

1. Putin loves his country.
2. Putin only acting on the behalf of Russians
3. Putin builds churches.
4. Putin hates homos.
5. Look over there! George Soros!
6. Other (please specify).

TASS is the only surviving news agency that dates back to the Tsarist time. In its current form as ITAR-TASS, its still the world’s largest news organization. It is the official Russian state news agency.
