President Obama regularly touts what he calls the “economic recovery” supposedly prompted by his policies, including the creation of 7.5 million jobs, consistent growth for more than three years and revitalization of the domestic auto industry. He recently told ABC’s “This Week” host George Stephanopoulos, for example, that during the Great Recession of 2008, “we came in, stabilized the situation. The banking system works. It is giving loans to companies who can get credit. And so we have seen, I think undoubtedly, progress across the board.”
It’s an upbeat talking point for the president, but the problem is most Americans don’t believe it. Rasmussen Reports said its most recent survey that only 22 percent of respondents rate the economy as "good" or "excellent."

If I could take my family to Hawaii each Christmas, spending MILLIONS of OTHER PEOPLE’S money to do so, I’d be thinking things were swell too!

Good post. If the president was a Republican that question would have been shouted in his face.
Imagine what Americans would think if the media weren’t simply a megaphone for this administration’s talking points and actually reported the whole truth.
When you have months of more people getting on disability than are getting jobs,
it’s not a “recovery”.
On the other hand, people not working and still eating does not drive a political movement for “change it back!”
Believe it or not I watched it in background while posting on FR.
Matthews should be ashamed of himself after a performance like that.
What recovery? This is not merely a recession, that ship sailed a long tome ago. This is a full-blown DEPRESSION, comparable to the period of 1938 to the outbreak of WW II.
Look at the collapsing employment numbers, and the number of otherwise able-bodied potential employees NOT working, or working at less than subsistence level, but on the dole of some kind (food stamps, Section Eight housing, “Earned Income Credit”, and Medicaid). Sure, there is some phony “unemployment rate” of “only 7%” (which is historically bad in ANY era), but the real rate is double that or more, and with the advent of the monstrosity known as the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010”, the situation is only gelled and solidified into a “new normal”. Making it difficult or impossible to expand the business structure, by a combination of fines, limits to “acceptable” benefits, and mandates, the decision to halt any plans for expansion and growth, or to even close doors altogether, become the only fiscally sound responses to this “new normal”. And compounds the problem even more.
Add to this a completely unfounded demand for raising the minimum wages, and it is GUARANTEED that the wave of unemployment that has been fueled by the stagnant economy shall become a tsunami, reducing the territory once known at “the United States of America” into one of the more destitute dystopias, devastated by despotism.
You need a harbinger of this change? Just look to California, where the one-party rule has paralyzed and stripped away every advantage that California, once the most favored of localities, had enjoyed during the only very recent prosperity that buoyed the whole world for decades after the end of WW II.
Between the fiat money, and the borrowing, they are feeding $2.3 Trillion to get $300 billion in GDP growth out - which counts the deficit spending in that GDP total. Functionally the economy is imploding at TWO TRILLION A YEAR.
We do not believe his jobs numbers either... Nazis lie or they could never attain power.
Worthless scum media. Why would anyone "buy" the lying POS' endless talk, when everything they are living is contrary to his blathering. In other words, are you going to believe the liar, or your lying eyes.

And run stories on how bad off the poor folks are.
Of course, the American people buy Obama’s “talk”, or they wouldn’t have elected him or reelected him.
