DETROIT, MI -- More than 200 protesters waved signs, bounced and shouted chants passionately in unison outside a McDonald's on and other nearby fast food restaurants on Seven Mile near the Lodge Freeway in Detroit Thursday.

Their demands: A $15 per hour minimum wage for fast food employees.

"Hold the pickles, hold the fries, make our wages super-sized," "We fired up, can't take it no more," and "What do we want? $15. When do we want it? Now," were among the chants.

The same kind of economic dumb that drove Detroit into bankruptcy, and they’re too dumb to connect the dots to realize it.

This is a microcosm of why Detroit is bankrupt. I have no doubt that some of these fools vote and they’re serious about their stupidity. I once thought that maybe we could swap Detroit for our debt with China, but the Chinks would never be dumb enough to fall for it. Very Sad!

They might as well hold up signs that say, “fire me today!”

I beg to differ.
I’d wager they are employed by SEIU as astroturfers.
They recruit on Craigslist here in Indiana all the time.

More insidious than that -

“government politician, put a gun to the head of the business owner and make him give me more money”

$50 gift cards from what I hear.... so if they work a whole shift on the picket line, they are making less than those inside the McDonalds...

They should be sued for not withholding FICA and shouldn’t this one day of work impact their welfare and unemployment checks? It would for us.

Because unions in the private sector are withering away, there is tremendous pressure to find some new workplaces to organize.

Even though union dues collected from fast food, WalMart, etc would be trivial per capita, the millions of workers would make it pretty lucrative for Dems.

If you look at their signs, they’re all professionally made. These people don’t want the raise, they want to be fired and go on unemployment, now more than ever if they extend the number of months they can collect.

Food is price-sensitive. Food franchises operate on a very small profit margin.

To pay unskilled workers $15 an hour something has to give - either hire them part-time or raise the price of food.

No manager is going to price their restaurant out of business so the employees will have to work fewer hours.

Which means they’d make the same amount part-time as they did working full-time! Nice way to price yourself out of a job!

Heck other businesses/renters/utilities will get on the price raising action too knowing a fair amount of fast food employees received a large raise.
