Steelers coach Mike Tomlin was fined $100,000 by the NFL on Wednesday for his near-collision with the Ravens kick returner Jacoby Jones on Thanksgiving night.

The NFL is also considering downgrading one of Pittsburgh’s draft picks after the order is set, a source told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

Old man Art Rooney is rolling in the grave, about his son's Dan's worship of affirmative action.

That’s right! A white coach would never have done it!

It’s a pretty stiff fine, let alone the draft pick.

I wonder if he knew what he was doing. If so, he was a real wise-ass, and deserves it. If not—it’s a message to others not to interfere with game play—and he can afford it.

Up here in Viqueen country we regularly throw ourselves pity parties but man, it has to be tough to be a football fan in Pennsylvania.

I recall something similar occurred with my college team many years ago on a punt return when the starting QB for Wake Forest left the sideline to tackle the punt returner and prevent a TD.

The officials awarded the TD to my school and called an unsportsmanlike penalty.

Oh he knew it. Pulling a “Woody Hayes” is frowned upon when 100’s of millions is at stake.

That’s all right, Jesse Jackson will call this a racist move and it will be swept under the plantation rug . . .

“about his son’s Dan’s worship of affirmative action.”

Bill Cowher did something similar against Jacksonville many moons ago. This has nothing to do with racial ass kissing.

I hate the Steelers regardless of coach anymore. That Super Bowl XL farce taught me that the NFL is more concerned about stories to tell than actual football anymore ... and I was born, raised, and still living in the area. The entire league is a sick joke and is an insult to all of the great players pre-2005ish .

And, yes, expressing that opinion in public, especially when everyone is drunk and urinating in the streets of South Side, can get you killed :-). I’ve tried it before. It’s not pretty.

He knew. The previous day all teams were warned about that specific behavior and were told to keep out of the white stripe area because it's reserved for the officials. Tomlin not only entered the white stripe but crossed it into the field of play at a time and place when the opposing team was advancing. NOT a coincidence. If Tomlin can show positively that he watched all other runbacks on the jumbotron that game he might have an excuse. But I sincerely doubt that's the case.

“The NFL is also considering downgrading one of Pittsburgh’s draft picks after the order is set, a source told NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.”

And how exactly do you accomplish that without penalizing the other teams? for example, if one team gets the advantage of getting bumped up in the draft order as a result, that penalizes the other teams. More nonsense from Goodell’s NFL.

I am not a Pittsburgh Steelers fan but I think the fine is enough. The coach’s actions didn’t affect the runner from scoring and if it did then take the draft picks. Also, if he did interfere with the runner he would probably be fired by now.

The returner should have run right into him. They might well have given him the touchdown, or at least assessed a penalty.

I wonder if he knew what he was doing.

He knew. He was looking up at the Jumbotron to position himself in the way while claiming he didn't see the runner coming - because he was watching the play on the Jumbotron! This is Obama level prevarication.
