Nicole Hockley, whose child was tragically murdered at Sandy Hook last year, said that background checks would not have prevented shooter Adam Lanza from getting the guns he used to carry out the atrocities. She also stated that the 911 tapes from that day should not be released.

I can think of one thing which would have prevented the tragedy. Committing the crazy bastard before he hurt someone.
It could have been reduced if the cop who responded within about 90 seconds hadn’t parked 1/4 mile away and waited for backup. He was sitting there as the children were being shot.
I forgot the obvious one of if someone at the school had been armed they could have stopped him.

All gun laws target the law abiding responsible gun owner. The deranged person will always find a way to commit murder, weather with a gun or with a crock pot full of homemade explosives.
Ever notice how a tragedy advances the gun control agenda but never alleviates the problem?
When Bobby Kennedy was murdered, in the hysteria that followed, every thing the anti-gunners hated was placed on the table to ban. We ended up with that travesty the 1968 Gun Control Law.
They got what they wanted for years. (Short list of bans).
A ban on the import of 5 shot bolt action Army surplus rifles. (Military rifle bad, Police rifle good, even though they were the same.)
A ban on foreign made”Saturday Night Specials” like the small high quality BROWNING pistols and junk RG pistols. (parts for real junk guns were then shipped to the US for assembly)
A ban on the import of foreign military goods (flintlock flints)
In all this mess, the very handgun used to kill Kennedy was not banned as it was US made.

She’ll do fine locally. From what I can tell, the incident has made a lot of locals strongly pro-gun. The last election, Republicans, such as they are in the northeast, took as many of the school board seats as legally allowed ( balance can’t go beyond 5-2). There was a tripling in CCW permits from the town. Lots of other stuff overheard when passing through.

If you have a person of questionable mental health living with you you may want to keep your guns locked away in a quality safe. Lanza’s mother had one of those el cheapo sheet metal safes but may have kept it locked since it was not broken into. It may not completely prevent a motivated person getting into it but it can’t hurt.
