Major media organisations protest against being shut out of president's events in favour of official photographer
Barack Obama's White House has been accused of producing Soviet-style propaganda by press photographers who are furious at being denied access to the US president.
Mr Obama's aides routinely block independent photographers from capturing him at work, before distributing flattering pictures shot by Pete Souza, his official photographer.
During a tense meeting at the White House, the practice was described by Doug Mills, a veteran photographer for The New York Times, as just like TASS, the Soviet Union state news agency.
More than 30 major US media organisations and the leading US press photographers' union have protested against being barred from covering Mr Obama in an open letter to his press secretary.
Journalists are routinely being denied the right to photograph or videotape the president while he is performing his official duties, said the letter, which was delivered to Jay Carney.
As surely as if they were placing a hand over a journalists camera lens, officials in this administration are blocking the public from having an independent view of important functions of the executive branch of government.

The regime is just helping out their media friends.
They realize that traditional media is struggling economically due to internet competition, loss of adverts to things like Craigslist, etc.
By using taxpayer funded govt sourced images and videos, they can eliminate a lot of costs of photogs, camera persons, technicians, etc.
Oh, well that'll help.
He'll run with it.
I find it interesting that a) the media is now all huffy about Bozo acting like a dictator (welcome to the real world, useful idiots) and b) once again the UK press is doing the job the American press refuses to do.
I would be interested to see how many previous presidents published pictures of themselves conducting business in the White House while wearing jeans, T-shirt, windbreaker and sneakers.
He is probably afraid a reporter would catch him in a photograph in the oval office smoking weed in his pajamas.
“US press photographers’ union have protested against being barred from covering Mr Obama in an open letter to his press secretary”
And yet they are the press...if they had one ounce of journalist in them they would figure out how to cover him and NOT cover up for him.
Sorry journalist, cry me a river...your bed, you made it...
What?, too many “unauthorized” pictures of the Lightbringer with his mouth full of flies? As well, I haven’t seen any pictures lately of the One showing that nasty scar on head either - love to hear the story (the true story) on that little oopsie.
Now it’s hope that we can halt the change.
The media forget that they’re just useful idiots to the current communist regime and can be discarded at will.
Uh, no, now that you ask. No, actually I don't know why not.
Six years of acting like useful idiots, while Obama constantly stiffs them in return, and now they’re finally wondering what’s going on?
At least Bill Clinton gave them plenty of drinks, ord’oeuvres, and Hollywood starlets. Obama gives them nothing but gestures of contempt. And they kiss his toes in response.
The whitehouse would quickly get the message.
Wow, the media delivers a “sternly-worded letter”. What’s next? Slightly less slobbering, enthusiastic supporter of the arrogant ignoramus tyrant wannabe? What a bunch of useless tools...
The deeper the hole, the more BS one can fill it with.
BS = bad stewards uhhh and ..
The stank is overpowering.. Who needs stealth when you have stench like no others?
The decay of the Republic,, now available in ObamaOdorVision.
This is the same pool of photographers who put a halo around Obama’s head? Pfffft...
I can just picture Sherriff Bart, safe from the lynch mob but taking himself hostage, snickering at them. “Oh, man, are they STUPID!”
Just like with Clinton, the media works hard to redeem itself after tirelessly working to elect the bum.
