HOUSTON, Nov. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Statoil and NASA have formed an agreement to explore a wide range of technologies to assist Statoil in the search for oil and gas exploration and production efforts, which are increasingly moving into frontier regions. The contract with NASA is effectuated at Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) at Pasadena, California, which is managed by the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

Statoil has a solid track record of being an innovative energy company and are always looking for safer, more cost effective and smarter solutions. Collaborating with world leading institutions, working across disciplines, has led to innovative solutions for Statoil.

"Searching for oil and gas resources has become so advanced technically over the past decade that new solutions and ideas are needed. To Statoil this is a significant opportunity to take technologies developed by NASA and JPL for the harsh and challenging environments of space and apply them to the equally demanding environments of oil and gas production," said Lars Hoier, Statoil acting senior vice president of research, development and innovation.

"We're excited to work with NASA—one of the leading research organisations globally—to evaluate the development and application of technologies that have more in common with outer space exploration than previously thought."

"This agreement is the latest example of how NASA and JPL technologies can benefit us here on Earth. It's also an example of how collaborations with other industries can be beneficial to space exploration," said JPL director Charles Elachi.

Thank you America for helping us get even richer :)

First NASA helping muslims, now helping Norwegians increase our wealth.

Thank you America.

The solar system is made of hydrocarbons.

We should start selling concessions.

Why not? We made a good start with "Pigs In Space"!

(Thank you so much, Jim Henson. RIP)

Maybe we really should start selling concessions.

Look what happened with the Bitcoin. It could work.

We should be able to work out the technical details of the website. Maybe linked to Zillow some way. Log on, pick out your concession, paypal your payment to our account, and its yours. 99 years with right to renew.

It's a nice thought. And I am still pulling for BitCoin. Anything that I can switch to that the gov can not tax is a Very Good Thing.

Plus, I have to smile when I think of how it must affect the delicate sensibilities of the muzzies to know that people like the concept of Pigs In Space.

Religion Of "Peace" in space is not such a pleasant concept, however. *snicker*

Statoil operates in Iran, so helping Statoil is well within NASA’s Muslims-First policies.

And I didn’t even know we had started drilling in space.

Oh! Nevermind...

Heh... looks like part of NASA’s continuing outreach to the muzzies — whaddayabet Statoil looks somewhere, anywhere, outside the US?

Well, we found hydrocarbons on Titan. You could probably convert that to oil. But the cost of gathering and bringing them back to earth would cost more than a million dollars a barrel, easily.

I think Statoil would be better off sticking to their funny commercials, like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BV9iuH2zjsM

Titan’s not the place to raise the kids, in fact it’s cold and oily.
