One womans demoralizing experience with the ObamaCare website, which her daughter documented in an article this week in The Wall Street Journal, is shining a light on how the health care law is forcing people into Medicaid even if they dont want it.
"How has it come to this?" Nicole Hopkins wrote of her mothers experience.
After having had her insurance canceled this fall like so many millions of Americans, her mother Charlene sought a new insurance policy on HeathCare.gov. But it gave her only one choice Medicaid - which is the government's traditional safety net to cover the uninsured poor.
Charlene Hopkins does not see herself as poor and resents having to stoop to what she believes is a taxpayer funded hand-out, when she prides herself on a life of independence and self-sufficiency.

Of course. Single payer. Medicaid.
Indeed, this was inevitable. Obama is moving the poverty line upward, next thing the “two-bit millionaires” with only one or two mil will be on the public dole.
Sadly, this will effect those who legitimately need Medicaid. All benefits will decrease and decline. A five-year-old orphan will be put on the waiting list for ten years to have life-saving surgery. I do NOT begrudge him medical care, but the Dems will.
First he puts everyone on Madicaid, then he drops Medicaid payment to Doctors so low that they won’t accept it. Then you are sitting in some clinic somewhere surrounded by Gimmedats for hours on end.
So, at what income level qualify for Medicare?
That is part of the bait-and-switch plan, or confidence game, they are running, “Come for the Obamacare, end up with freebie Medicaid.”
I guess Medicaid is the single payer
Do any of you realize that when you get on Medicaid - all those medical bills mount up. And when you die they’ll go after your estate to repay the government for those costs.
Your heirs may be shocked when they find out the government has taken grandmother’s house and has frozen the bank accounts.
What if grandma gave her money away before she died? If it was within 7 years - too bad. They’ll go after that too.
I don’t know the income level, I was being facetious about the millionaires. I do know that some people need help. Wish there weren’t so many of them.
I don’t want to see anyone dying in the streets, so Medicaid is good in that sense. But as the economy continues to dive, the Medicaid rolls will expand. People who used to have jobs may need help now keeping their kids healthy. It’s really tragic.
Please, God, send us some politicians who can get this economy on an upward track by sending no more jobs overseas. People who have jobs can take care of their own. And aside from the welfare queens, prefer to do so.
Ironic, isn't it?
If someone is forced into Medicaid, say at 62, do they move to Medicare at 65?
That’s funny. They took “Land of the “free” very literally.
Few doctors accept medicaid...

Brilliant wealth re-distribution, no? The left has always maintained that “white wealth” was created by passing it from generation to generation; when death taxes didn’t dissolve estates completely another avenue had to be found. In the end people will make a conscious decision to avoid medical care for terminal conditions to avoid losing their life savings (if they’ll lose their life soon anyway).
I remember years ago the despondent look on a dentist’s face when I told him to pull a tooth; he wanted to make thousands of dollars out of it, and I wasn’t in aposition to commit to that.
Grandma needs to take out a home equity loan before she goes and buy physical gold. Gold leaves no traces.
Yep, I saw the guest on Kelly file,
Obamacare took away her health care policy that she paid for and was happy with and gave her two options:
1) Uninsured
2) Go on Medicaid with the welfare losers
This is definitively evil and its the progressives intention.
I can’t count how many times I’ve heard Juan Williams argue that “those people who lost their plans, don’t realize they will probably qualify for a subsidy!”. Am I the only one who wants to slap him when he says that? It’s infuriating to hear him say it and no one on our side objects. We don’t consider it progress when a person who was taking care of the own health coverage gets moved into the subsidized category. We much prefer paying your own way to having the government pay for part of it. (isn’t that a surprise!)
Most doctors don’t take medicaid.
