I’m actually wary of this - the Democrats are in meltdown right now - the last thing the Republicans should do is try something that will draw attention away, and let the Dems pull the “intransigent Republicans” card.

I wish I could believe the Democrats are in as much trouble as you say they are but I don't. What with the lack of Republican response to this latest Reid power grab and the sham hearings in the House that haven't sent anyone to jail or have triggered impeachment hearings, I doubt the Democrats are in much trouble with their LOW INFORMATION voters.

Obama made the calculation that the House wont be passing anything that he wants in this congress anyway, so might as well power grab.

The exception is a the budget and debt limit.

Then step back, Folks.

The moment we do they’ll return the rules to what they were.

That works for me and I'm a Buddhist. What say you, GOP, got Christians?

“Sooner or later we will get back the presidency and the Senate.”

And the last act of the dem Senate will be to reinstate the rule. And we won’t be able to squat about it, I’m afraid.

No, they'll just ask to be concentration camp guards.

These chumps just don't get it. They will be the first ones to inhabit the concentration camps.

And the resistance doesn't have to start and end in the Senate. First, Boehner should tell Reid that no legislation of any kind that originates in the Senate will see the light of day in the House, and that means NONE. Second, every Republican member of the House and Senate should make a point to get at least one op-ed article published in the their local/regional/national newspaper that lays out the history of the filibuster and its roll in maintaining the balance of power and reminds everyone of Reid's position back in 2005 and 2008 when the GOP majority in the Senate threatened the nuclear option because the RATs were blocking Bush's appointments.

>> It is all theater.

That's correct. We don't have Democrats and Republicans in government. We have the Ruling Class. Democrat or Republican doesn't matter; they're Ruling Class first, last, and always. Their priority is to maintain the Ruling Class in power, and to lord over the Productive Class. (]That's us, BTW. Doesn't matter if we're corporate executives, businessmen, engineers, factorymen, private practitioners, tradesmen, whatever ... we're the Productive Class. (There's also the Parasite Class and the Criminal Class. The upper/middle/lower class stuff we all hear about is marxist claptrap, distracting us from reality.)

That works until the lame duck session. That’s when the truly egregious stuff will be passed and signed.

I was just going to say the same thing.

The left pulled this nuclear stunt to get attention off of O-care. Many conservatives like redstate.org are falling for the bait...which is just what the left wants.

Of course they will change the rules by a simple majority vote if they lose the Senate. Just the fact that they changed the Senate rules by a simple majority is tyranny. Dingy Reid himself was quite recently that is would take a super majority of 67 votes to change Senate rules. And to change something so critical to our system as the filibuster? The only tool of recourse for an empassioned minority? Majority rule is mob rule. It’s 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner. The filibuster gives they sheep a voice.
What’s to stop Obama from expanding the federal appellate courts from 3 to 9 and loading them with young socialists? What’s to stop them from changing the rules so that any apointee that receives ten yea votes is confirmed? Nothing!
Why do I feel so cold and alone?

I agree. Much as I hate to admit it, the Bohener strategy (before the O/Care debacle) was correct---everytime the Pubbies showed their faces---the Obama/turds attacked them. So laying low was a good recourse.

Now the political earth has shifted. After the O/care debacle....Pubbies were everywhere---sticking it to the Dems.

The "Punisher President" was livid---remember he was dedicated to destroying the Repub/Party. Instead his incompetence made the Dem numbers collapse into quicksand....he faces losing the Senate and the House.

That's why he demanded the nuclear option----to tempt the Pubbies into "overreaching."

What's next for Boobamba? Invoking the War Powers Act?

I’d get rid of the filibuster for legislation if it meant Obamacare got repealed and not vetoed.

But it would be pretty pointless to get rid of the filibuster to repeal Obamacare when that repeal would just get vetoed before the ink on the repeal was dry.

The filibuster has stopped a lot of whacko leftist legislation from passing over the years. I wouldn’t get rid of it lightly.

Republicans can bring the senate to a standstill just be allowing for no use of unanimous consent. Every bill would have to be read twice. Every single vote for any purpose would have to be a roll call vote. There are tons of parlamentary procedures they could use to shut the senate down, but they won't do it.
