ORLANDO -- Two teenagers accused of cyberbullying a Polk County teen who committed suicide will not face charges.
The lawyers of a 14-year-old girl and a 12-year-old girl accused of bullying Rebecca Sedwick before her suicide, announced Wednesday that their clients will no longer face aggravated stalking charges.
Defense attorney Jose Baez has announced the State of Florida dropped charges against his 12-year-old client during a news conference.
“We are very pleased that the State Attorney’s Office through hard work and through extreme professionalism has decided to do the right thing," said Baez, adding that he never believed there was any evidence of criminal behavior.
Criminal charges will not be filed against the older teen, who is 14 and will not be named in according with crime guidelines.
The attorney of the 14-year-old released the following statement:
"My client and her family continue to send their condolences to Rebecca's family. Rebecca's untimely death has illuminated the dark side of adolescent life and the powerful role social media has in today's society. This tragedy has also sparked a national discussion on how to properly address these evils that our youth are experiencing. My client and her family are relieved by the State Attorney's decision today. She is hopeful about her future and is attempting to turn this tragic event into something positive."
According to her attorney, the girl is enrolled in a 90 day program where she is not allowed to have any contact with the other teen, or the Sedwick family. She will also not be allowed to use the Internet for social media but only for educational purposes.

I recall being harassed and attacked in school.
But that was over the Elaine Ackerman case, not straight up “bullying”.
What bullying existed at the time came at me from school officials.
Can’t comprehend what drives people to suicide.
In my experience though, behind every harassing hostile child existed a complacent or actively approving adult.
The buck stops at nobody today. It’s all one distributed buck.
And even in a weird sense they’re right. Many liberals are busy looking for an “evil” that transcends humanity, and trying very hard not to blame people.
And it so happens this evil really does exist!
It is called Satan.
What the liberals do NOT have, is a gospel to address this Satan.
Also, the liberals don’t have any sense of responsibility for the person who DIPPED into Satan.
That’s wrong. No I wouldn’t shoot them. That’s wrong too. I would hold the one who yielded to Satan, responsible for fighting off Satan for the rest of their life. Turns out that is exactly what God does!

If Rebecca was my daughter she would not have committed suicide.
polk counry arrested my adopted son 3x for stealing an aspirin at age 14, they somehow couldnt clear his record (His case went to court before i adopted him),
He would go out and not come home.
i would have to track him down.

Incredible. Letting these girls get away with bullying sends absolutely the wrong message.
Every year, a few kids commit suicide because they cannot see anything past the bullying. Many more bear the permanent emotional scars of bullying for the rest of their lives, scars which affect their ability to get and hold jobs, to build personal relationships, etc. Despite the recent attention to bullying, this has been a problem for a long time (probably as long as public schools have existed). I was bullied in school decades ago; that experience is part of why I consider schools an institutionalized form of child abuse.

What is all this anger? Do you realize that Rebecca’s stupid parents let her DATE boys at age 12, which started this whole sh*tstorm? Let her have unfettered access to Facebook? That is what makes me angry here...that they let their precious daughter wade into the whorebag lifestyle at such a tender age. I guess that’s what you get from parents who let their children be raised by “Glee” and MTV instead of by their parents and the Lord.

do your realize that for 12 yr olds, “dating” boys means meeting them at the mall for a movie, usually with a posse of friends? or just simple hanging out somewhere
our kids are immersed in computers, they are required for school, and parental controls have limited effects on a kid who is determined to break into social media underage, and on the sly. I blame the corporate hacks at FACEBOOK for this access
and for the rotten pop culture that permeates the movies TV airwaves and internet and music world with sex sex sex, dysfunctional celebrities, and twisted themes.
If you prepare your children for the world and gain their confidence. You and they are ahead of the problem. My now 33 year old mothed of 3 daughter came to me about a bully on the bus when she was 11. I gave some advice and a microcassette recorder. She taped 1 round trip. I set a meeting between the school, the other parents, and my wife and I. Tape was played. I calmly explained to the parents how little they would own if it did not stop and handed them and the school a letter from my lawyer. It never happened again. My daughter my son had been talked to since pre-school about what they may encounter in life and how to handle. You can’t’ predict suicide without dialog. Sometimes you don’t see it coming sometimes you do. But suicide due to bullying as children should not exist.
I taught my kids aikido and the sense to stay away from losers.
Excuses. I have 12 and 10 year olds who have never seen an episode of the legalized child porn on "Glee" or a second of MTV in their lives. They don't have phones and won't be getting any. And neither have Facebook accounts or will while they live under my roof.
My kids understand gun control and their groupings prove it.
