PRINCETON, NJ -- The 56% of U.S. adults who now say it is not the federal government's responsibility to make sure all Americans have healthcare coverage continues to reflect a record high. Prior to 2009, a clear majority of Americans consistently had said the government should take responsibility for ensuring that all Americans have healthcare.

I want to believe this is because America has had time to think about the government's proper role in its citizens' lives. Probably not the case. But I still hope.

What’s amazing is that anyone thought that way in the first place.

Guess I’ve been outta step. Never thought the government should have anything to do with my medical problems.

Silver lining of the CommieCare debacle? People starting to get it?

I just had a convo with another FREEPER yesterday that thought it was OK for the taxpayer to fund healthcare for him...

It's clearly not their responsibility.

They are way out of line. They seem to think that everything is their business.

Someone should object every time a law is proposed that isn't within their mandate to ask under what authority they presume to create the law.

As it now stands, they pass whatever laws they please and then leave it up to the courts to stop them if they are out of bounds.

You assume that the will of the people has anything to do with it! The problem is that the RINO's haven't gotten the message. Just last week Senator McCain was on the radio suggesting that Obamacare needed to be repealed, but almost under his breath, multiple times, he added: "and replaced".

The idea of whether or not public healthcare should be the federal government's responsibility is not simply a matter of opinion.

More specifically, if parents were taking the responsibility to make sure that their children were being taught about the federal government's constitutionally limited powers, then citizens would likely know the following. They would know that the Supreme Court had previously officially clarified that the states have never delegated to Congress, via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for public healthcare purposes. This is evidenced by the following excerpt from Gibbons v. Ogden.

"State inspection laws, health laws, and laws for regulating the internal commerce of a State, and those which respect turnpike roads, ferries, &c. are not within the power granted to Congress (emphases added)." --Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

"Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States." --Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.

Noting that corrupt Congress wrongly established Obamacare without the constitutional authority to do so, if voters want federal healthcare then they need to do the following. They need to work with their state and federal lawmakers to propose an appropriate amendment to the Constitution to the states for ratification. And if the states choose to ratify such an amendment then Congress would have the constitutional authority that it needs to establish something like Obamacare.

But also note that the states already have the 10th Amendment-protected power to regulate, tax and spend for healthcare purposes. This is evidenced by RomneyCare.

Only 56%? Regressive education policies have certainly caught up with us, haven’t they?
