Husband of Katherine Harris commits suicide, police say
Sarasota Herald Tribune ^ | 11/19/13 | Lee Williams

SARASOTA - Sarasota Police are investigating the apparent suicide of Anders Ebbeson, husband of former Congresswoman and Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris.

Police were called to the scene of the couple's house in the 1400 block of Sarasota's Bay Point Drive around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Police and Pastor William Hild of downtown Sarasota's First Baptist Church confirmed that Ebbeson, a 68-year-old Swedish businessman, had taken his own life and asked the community to respect the family's privacy.

"On behalf of the family, Katherine's husband took his own life," Hild said outside the home on Bay Point Drive Tuesday morning. "They are asking for privacy, prayer, thoughts and love from the community."

"Anders has been suffering health conditions that he'd been attempting to deal with, which had been increasingly part of his life," Hild said.

Police Chief Bernadette DiPino said that Harris wanted the community to know that her husband was "no longer suffering."

The police chief asked that "the community respect the family at this difficult time."

It’s important to keep attention off the Obamacare stories... might help Republicans. Is that the reason for a ‘trash a Republican’ post or is there something I’m missing?

I worked as a volunteer on both Katherine’s Congressional & Senate Campaigns.

She is a woman of great faith, courage and integrity. Her husband was very supportive and devoted to her. This is very tragic but I believe her strong faith will carry her just as it did in 2000.

You will recall as FL Secretary of State, she followed FL Law despite immense pressure, ridicule and attacks from the media and Democrats.

She wrote of her experiences during that election aftermath in “Eye of the Storm”.

Every recount done by many newspapers, including the NY Times, confirmed that George W. Bush won the presidency by 537 votes.

May God comfort Katherine and her family.

How much time will pass before someone on the left begins gloating, and who might it be?

I feel so sorry for this woman.
It’s not as if she hasn’t suffered enough at the hands of the Jackal Media.

How very sad, I’ve known Katherine for several years and met Anders on occasion. He hated Washington and everything about it, and generally avoided coming here. Indeed he was a gentle and devoted man. I remember Katherine once saying (publicly, so this is not a breaking of confidence) that as a young woman she was a “jerk magnet” but all that was behind her when she met Anders.

I had hoped to visit her in Sarasota next weekend, but I will no longer make the intrusion.

Erm, badly phrased, Hild.

My deepest sympathy to Ms. Harris and her family.

You can be sure the Kos Kidz and DU types are already at it. They will never forgive Katherine Harris for daring to do her job.

Try and find one Democrat that believes one word of that statement. Probably very few Pubbies know it.

We should be thankful that there are no accusations of murder on this thread.

We are truly living in trying times.

Sometimes it’s not just the pain and suffering. Often the medications that are given to deal with some major illnesses can cause overwhelming suicidal depression. You just don’t have control of your emotions. Even if you’re a person of faith and courage, the drugs simply overturn your mind. There’s no sin for God to forgive.

No, I think it is even more important to go there next week, to remember us to her. To remind her that many across the country DO remember her courage.

Good point. When my Mom had knew replacement surgery, she could not sleep due to immense pain. They put her on sleeping pills & within about 2 Weeks she became extremely depressed & felt she didn’t wanna live anymore. I flushed the damn pills down the toilet & she eventually recovered & is just fine now. I am convinced ”legal meds” are the cause of many murders & suicides. Prayers to Mrs Harris & family :((

Just wait for the Lefts’ smear campaigns to begin.

Glad you “set the record straight” so early on.

Before concluding with certainty that the death of Anders Ebbeson was a suicide, it's important to remember the Clinton Body Count, including the strange deaths of people crossing paths with Clinton officially called "suicides" which on further analysis were actually homicides. Remember also that Katherine Harris was a villainess to the national Democrats in 2000 and that her diligent work during the Florida recount frustrated the attempts of Clinton's buddy Gore to steal the White House. Some people do have long memories, if you know what I mean.

I'm not saying that this wasn't a suicide, only that the possibility of foul play can't be ruled out until more facts are known.

I like to play pretend on this. Where would our country be had Gore won? I think we may have been better off right now. Really, what would have Gore done that was any different than Bush after 9-11? The slide to big government would have been about the same. The R congress would have put up a bit more valiant fight, and not have to cower like they do to Captain Zero now.

Gore would have likely been re-elected in 2004. And there is no way Captain 0 would have been elected in 2008. The Ds would have nominated a Clinton/Gore crony, or John Edwards would have been at the top of the ticket, as Gore's VP.

Of course, we can only speculate, but considering where we are now, I'd take my chances with Gore winning and having a do-over.
