When peasants break the law, they can expect to face trial and punishment. When government agents break the law, usually nothing happens. This double standard is unacceptable in a nation that claims to support rule of law, equal protection under the law, and “a nation of laws and not of men.” Until government agents get tried, convicted and punished with equal likelihood to peasants committing the same crimes, I will have doubts about the trustworthiness of government.
