Clyburn (RAT-SC): Most Dem defectors wanted to 'insulate themselves against sound bites'

Assistant Democratic Leader James Clyburn (D-S.C.) on Sunday said most House Democrats who broke with their party and voted for a GOP-backed health insurance bill did so to "insulate themselves against sound bites."

Almost 40 House Democrats voted on Friday for a Republican-led bill to to allow everyone to keep their health insurance, regardless of that plan's quality, splitting with President Obama and their party leadership. Most hail from competitive House districts, and Clyburn says that's the reason they backed the bill.

"What you saw with those 39 people, maybe nine people had real serious concerns. The fact of the matter is about 30 of them, and I've talked to them, were insulating themselves against sound bites. And that's part of the problem," Clyburn says on CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday morning.

Clyburn ripped the bill for allowing "those substandard policies — I call them junk" to be offered again, but admitted Democrats facing tough races who voted against the bill would be handing their opponent an easy attack line in campaign ads.

"I don't blame anybody for insulating themselves from these sound bites because that's the world we live in — unfortunately, but that's the world we live in," he said.

Democrats have been plunging in the polls over the last few weeks during ObamaCare's tumultuous rollout.

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) called the healthcare law "dangerously flawed" and said it was "time to start over" on healthcare reform, calling for a repeal of the law.

"The website is just the tip of the iceberg," he said.

They called the old policies junk, but were they?

If so why didn’t they try to do something with them instead of adding more junk and a higher p[rice.

Does he mean, like...the out-of-context and chopped and spliced soundbites that the media uses against Republicans every election?

If not for inconvenient “soundbites”, Richard Mourdock would be in the Senate

The Democrat meme of "inferior policies being replaced by superior ones" needs challenged each time it is vomited out of the mouth of the idiot. It is not a superior policy when you are paying for services you don't need. At my age, I don't need maternity care. I don't need drug and alcohol treatment and I sure as hell don't need transgender services, etc.

When the Titanic sunk, using a grand piano as a life raft was understandale. But grand pianos are not the proper design for a life raft. The same with The Clown's expensive policies. Filled with knick knacks nearly no one will need and with their hubris they deem them superior.

News a few minutes ago was that 70 million people were in the path of the storm system extending from the mid south to New England today. That is fewer Americans than those who are in the path of a more destructive force, Obama care.

What that racist Clyburn is really saying is that those democrats are lying to their constituents and were voting so they could say they voted for the “keep your policy” law even though did not believe in it. They were just trying to save their asses.

This was “unexpected” . . . NOT. Give Rep. Clyburn (D-SC) a Kewpie doll and a Captain Obvious Award.

Pardon this ping. It's so rare that our token RAT Rep. makes the news (yes, he's the only one), that I couldn't help myself.

Democrats facing tough races who voted against the bill would be handing their opponent an easy attack line in campaign ads.

So Clyburn decided he'd hand the easy attack line to the Democrats opponents himself? Now those candidates are spineless too, and their own party leadership is making the accusation. What an asset Clyburn is... for the Republican party.

Sure "junk policies," that don't force me to pay for birth control or pediatric dental when I had a hysterectomy 15 years ago, have no children living at home, have no need of birth control???

Yeah Senator Clybur,, I'd rather have my "junk policy" that mostly didn't cover thingsy that I don't need, am not going to nreed in the future - ever!

Why do you, Sen. Clyburn, Obama and Sebelius get off telling me that I don't know what I need, YOU, in your wisdom, DO?

Clyburn is my “rep” only because they picked up my house in the night & moved it into his district which is like a giant amoeba spread over South Carolina. It’s hopeless, he’ll never be diselected & will die in office.

But I can still call Rep. Joe Wilson’s or Rep. Trey Gowdy’s office & lend my support.

Trey Gowdy for President (someday)!
