Bob and Janet Cubbler freely admit that they're not the most technologically savvy couple around. But when it counts, what they may be is just a little more determined than most.
"I'll try something, and try it, and try it again," says Bob.
Which is exactly what he had to do when searching for a new insurance plan for Janet on the federal government's online marketplace, a site that has been paralyzed with problems.
"It's very frustrating. I'm retired," Bob says. "So I have a lot of time. But I probably, for a long number of days, went on every day. And couldn't get anywhere."
"Eventually I got to see all the comparable policies, and what they offered, and what the prices were," Bob says.
All numbers that really surprised him.
"I couldn't believe that this was true," he says.
The Cubblers discovered several plans from different companies on healthcare dot gov much cheaper than the option their current provider was offering them.
"I don't know about anybody else," Bob says, "but I'm more than willing to save four thousand or three thousand dollars a year."
He says the less expensive policies provide coverage as extensive as their last plan...
"And we don't qualify for subsidies from the government," he adds. "We don't get any premium support."
The Cubblers advice for you is to "get on the website," Bob says. "I know it's tough. Have patience. And check it out."
It's a sentiment President Obama expressed yesterday during a live address to the nation.
"I'd encourage you to take a look at the marketplace, even if the website isn't working as smoothly as it should be for everybody yet," the President said. "The plan comparison tool that lets you browse costs for new plans near you is working just fine."

Wait until they find out that quality doctors and hospitals don’t take the crapola. They can Google medical help and operate on themselves.
Gotta love the media, for finding a success story such as this, so they can trumpet this story far and wide. Look here, folks, someone found a choice of policies, they got through on the website, and their new policy is cheaper and better than what they had before. Woo hoo..........
Communist propaganda. Two people finally find love on the ObamaScam website and it’s major news. Geeesh! I do recommend that they keep an eye on their credit rating for a while though.
Exactly as feared, the old and the people with preexisting conditions are the ones most determined to get signed up. That means it will be heavily weighted wit people who will cost the most to keep healthy while the young and healthy just ignore it or say they will pay the fine.
Did they even purchase a policy?
Finding a success story like this required even more patience than Bob claims to have. Would love to know the rest of their story, i.e., connections to the local Dem party, union membership(s)/office(s) held, etc.
You know something has to be very bad, when they have to search for and herald one of the few people who could get through the process.
What I fund interesting about all this, is that they stated there were tens of millions of people who didn’t have insurance.
A month and a half later one hundred thousand some odd people have signed up?
What happened to the other 49,900,000 approximate uninsured people they claimed there were?
One couple wow!!!!
Now interview the 5 million plus who have lost their plans.
(Personally, I do not believe their plans on ACA site are cheaper)
...how many Congressmen’s phones have they tapped going down the highway...
Too bad they didn’t just go to thehealthsherpa.com to compare rates. For example, I found coverage that was only more than double what I have as compared to almost triple. BTW, BS alert. If he is retired he is most likely looking at MEDICARE plans, not an individual health policy.
Fourteen Russian and Chinese hackers have their Obamacare data too.
As well I am sure that at Auschwitz there was at least one Jew who said, "A shower? That sounds really nice!"
...why does their sign up internet address show up as a White House basement computer?
I wonder how Melissa Hankins found out about “Bob and Janet”. Did they call her or did she call them. When I bought my last new car, it never made the news.
More wealth transfer from the young to the old. If you are one of the winners, it pays to be persistent.
I could save some money by switching from UPMC to another carrier but then I'd be excluded from some of the finest hospitals and specialists in the region {if not nation}.
Health insurance is about payment for HEALTH CARE and too often, during this madness called obamacare, the two get conflated {sometime by mistake, sometime on purpose}.
I can make better decision for me and my family about my finances {insurance} as well as my well being {health care}.
The feds are good at giving eternal life to short term programs. PERIOD.
They probably just bought a Nigerian plan.
Did they factor in the airfare to Haiti in order to find a doctor?
Similar stories are running in our local media. However, none of them, like this story, give details of these plans — such as whether these wonderful plans have have deductibles or co-pays. I can’t believe anyone is getting bargain basement premiums without some monetary or coverage downside.
