THE COLD WAR WE LOST - A whole new generation, cluelessly raised.
American Spectator ^ | November 13, 2013 | Paul Kengor

Posted on 11/13/2013 3:12:37 PM PST by neverdem

"What the HELL is going on???” emailed a colleague of mine after reading my most recent column for The American Spectator, regarding Bill de Blasio’s mayoral victory in New York. “Absolutely stunning.”

My friend was amazed that New Yorkers could—by a 50-point margin—elect a man who was so pro-Sandinista in the 1980s that he peddled subscriptions for the Marxist regime’s newspaper; who was so pro-Castro that he took his bride to Fidel’s Cuba for their honeymoon; who, in an earlier romance, sojourned to the Soviet Motherland; who now peddles his beliefs under the banner of “progress” and “social justice.” With finely honed Obama-like class-warfare rhetoric, Bill de Blasio preaches income leveling and attacks the rich who never pay their fair share. He now calls himself, as so many ex- and current communists do, a “progressive.” And he wins election in a landslide, with the proletariat rolling out the red carpet at city hall.

As I related in my article, New Yorkers have elected their first Red Diaper Baby Mayor to go with their first Red Diaper Baby President, who they likewise gleefully elected in landslides.

So, to repeat my friend’s plea: “What the HELL is going on???”

The answer, coincidentally, arrived in my email box moments earlier. It came from a college student, and was the sort I receive all-too-frequently. I’ve deleted his name and college to protect him from persecution by the tolerance-preaching academic left. Here’s what he wrote:

I had a Communist Prof. last semester and we were talking about communism in class and he stood in the front of the room and talked about how great communism is. He even held up his little red book a few times and yelled “Long live chairman Mao.”... If it wasn't the biggest class [the college] offers, there [were]….

People voted for DeBlasio because his son, who is biracial, sported an Afro.

This is, unfortunately, not just a generational thing. The minorities and underclass, who buttress the liberals, think and act emotionally. They won’t listen to logic, which to them is a “dead white male” thing. Unfortunately, their children are being raised to think this way, as well.

The Communist goal of subverting the education system (and other institutions) succeeded a long time ago. It will take a generation or two of harsh suffering to educate those young idiots about reality.

I fear a complete collapse is the only way these “progressives” in power today can be defeated. We really are that far down that road.

Karma

Barack Hussein Obama, a man with no record of personal accomplishment, no leadership experience, and a man with strong connections to terrorists, criminals, racists, and anti-American Communists pulled it off and was elected President of these United States. What does this election mean and what does it say about the American people? Could it be that karma will finally bestow the consequences of dishonorable behavior on the American people?

Why do I say this? In answer to my question, let me remind you of this statement and where these words took the American people:

“Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty.”

John Fitzgerald Kennedy Inaugural address, Friday, January 20, 1961

With these words ringing in our ears, my generation went to Vietnam and promised the Vietnamese people we would stand shoulder to shoulder with them until their freedom was secure and the enemies of liberty were defeated. But, it is to America’s eternal shame and disgrace that the American people soon grew tired of this noble undertaking and betrayed the very people who had believed and trusted us.

The American people elected Democrats to our Congress who had rather see American soldiers killed and our country defeated than allow a Republican President to receive credit for defeating our enemies. This Democrat led Congress (the infamous 93rd) cut off funding for the Vietnam War and forced the withdrawal of American combat troops in 1973, but we departed with the hollow promise that we would return if the Republic of South Vietnam was invaded by communist North Vietnam. As everyone must remember, this, again, was a lie.

The tactic we had taught the South Vietnamese was to, when invaded by the North, fall back to a defendable position, stall the communist advance, force the communists to mass their forces before South Vietnam’s defenses, and this would allow time for American forces and air power to return to assist them as we had promised. South Vietnam did just that; for twelve days, outnumbered ten to one, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) held and stalled the communist’s advance outside Saigon near a little town called Xuan Loc.

Outside Xuan Loc during April 1975, in an effort as gallant as that of the Spartans at Thermopylae, the ARVN 18th Infantry Division held two North Vietnamese Army Corps at bay for twelve days. Every infantryman in the ARVN 18th Infantry Division died in that stand. None ran away and none survived. They died to a man fighting overwhelming odds and believing to the end we Americans would return as promised.

Just before the last ARVN soldier of the 18th Infantry Division died, he might have rolled over on his back and looked to the sky hoping to see the contrails of American B-52 bombers and he saw nothing. This last ARVN soldier then knew that he, along with all the Vietnamese people, had been betrayed. With his dying breath, this soldier must have then turned his gaze heavenly and beseeched God to Damn America.

Yes, there is such a thing as karma where dreadful consequences are meted out in recompense for dishonorable behavior. The American people’s just rewards for abandoning a valiant ally during their time of need could have been that the chickens came home to roost on the American people with an Obama Presidency, a Nancy Pelosi Congress, a Harry Reid Senate, a John Roberts Supreme Court, and it couldn’t have happened to a more deserving people.

The election of 2008 and re-election of 2012 was about more than just Obama, his arrogance, his empty resume, and his traitorous comrades. Just as karma provides consequences for dishonorable behavior, there are also adverse consequences for irresponsible behavior. As a people deserve the government they vote into office, they also deserve the consequences resulting from that government’s actions or inaction. The consequences of a government not securing a country’s borders is that a people will lose their country as we are now losing ours to an invasion of illegal immigrants. The consequences of not securing a country’s electoral processes to prevent voter fraud is the country will lose its Democracy to a Thugocracy as we have lost ours to a Chicago-mob run Coup d’état.

But the final insult to our Democracy is with the election of Barack Hussein Obama, an avowed Marxist Communist, a significant chapter in American History finally closed. Our sixty-odd year long Cold War with Communism is over and the Communists won the war.

These words precede those of President Kennedy, so no one can say we didn’t see this coming:

“We cannot expect the Americans to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving Americans small doses of Socialism until they suddenly awake to find they have Communism.”

Nikita Khrushchev, 1959

As we Americans continue to live out the old Chinese curse, “May you live in interesting times.”

But alas, it’s a generation later, and something crucial happened in the interim: the political left retained control of higher education and much of education generally, not to mention Hollywood, television, and media. Positioned in the right places, the left controlled the most influential forces in the country and culture. This meant that the next generation never learned the vital lessons about the Cold War, about communism, about the pitfalls of the left’s penchant for centralization, collectivization, redistribution, government fiat, moral and cultural relativism, militant secularism, and on and on. The nation’s youth was ample prey for the left’s cynical misuse of phony slogans like “diversity” and “tolerance,” which the academy preaches mightily but doesn’t dare apply where it matters most in a university: ideas. Thus, the post-1989 generation learned the bad ideas that lost, not the good ones that won; the latter were refused and repressed.

And there it is! Remember the movie "While You Were Sleeping"? We allowed these left-wing radicals egress to every aspect of our lives and, in so doing, granted them access to the most precious members, our children. Now .. we ALL pay the price.

Paul hits on a most important observation, namely that while we were fighting Asian communism (Hanoi’s and Peking’s) in Indochina/Korea, and even the Philippines, and taking down the Soviet style communism in Europe, we missed a couple other battlefields.

The communists made great inroads into both Central and South America. We eventually overturned a Marxist Sandinista victory in Nicaragua only to see the moderated incapable of running the country so the reds are back today, and in El Salvador to some degree (the FLMN).

They run and ruin Venezuela today, and Bolivia, and Ecuador (who, without oil, would just be a jungle), are making gains in Peru, Argentina (a combination of Peronism-fascism and low-level communism), Brazil (the “quiet marxism”), and inroads in Uruguay. Major target is Chile. If Chile falls, so does the rest of South America.

Cuba is still red.

Most of southern Africa is marxist (Namibia - possibly some lessening of SWAPO’s control); South Africa - run by the Communist Party of S. Africa/ANC; Angola - still marxist with some tinges of capitalism; Mozambique - once hardcore marxist - not sure of status today.

Much of the rest of Africa is either authoritarian (Congo, Uganda, Ethiopia, Eritrea (marxist), or under assault by the Islamist fanatics - Algeria, Morocco, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Mali, Kenya etc, or is controlled by Islamic supremacists - Sudan, Libya to some extent, Tanzania?, etc. .

Marxists control much of one major state in India - run by the terrorist Naxalities; Nepal is a de facto marxist state; Tibet - marxist occupied.

In the US, while the old Trotskyite movement disintegrated (the Socialist Workers Party), and the Maoist Progressive Labor Party holds their conventions in phone-booths, new marxist parties arose including the once Trotskyite, now Stalinist “Workers World Party” and their fronts, ANSWER, IAC, Peoples Anti-War Mobilization, All Peoples Congress, et al.

The old Communist Party USA is still around and very active in Democratic politics (esp. Chicago, New Haven, Ct. and California). Its’ split-off, the Committee of Correspondence has infiltrated the largest marxist organization in the US, the Democratic Socialists of America (major player in the Progressive Congressional Caucus and the Black Congressional Caucus).

THe DSA was the backbone support group among the marxists for Obama’s political career (ex-CPers joined the DSA - Quentin Young, Obama’s personal physician and godfather of “obamacare”, Milton Cohen, and CP supporters Alice Palmer; Weathermen marxists Bill Ayers & Bernadine Dohrn, plus the SDS-fed Midwest Academy, ACORN, Apollo Alliance, etc).

The DSA is deeply embedded in academia, along with the earlier professors of the old 1960’s “Socialist Scholars Conference” organizations. There is a new SSC today with many of the same marxist goals.

If you read the new book “The Enemies Within: Communists, Socialists and Progressives in the US Congress”, Trevor Loudon, 2013, and the earlier book “The Enemies Within”, 2011, you will see that a whole underground and above ground movement of marxists, led by the DSA, started their infiltration of American “culture, education, media, and local politics back in the late 1970’s, early 80’s, as Prof. Kengor has so correctly pointed out.

They basically control many of the social and educational programs that are destroying our nation today, including Common Core educational programs, “diversity” and “sexual/social justice” programs, “redistributive justice”, “wealth redistribution” programs, and programs that promote the acceptance of illegal immigrants as equal to law abiding US citizens and legal immigrants.

DeBlasio was just one of the “New Left” of the 80’s who effectively burrowed his way into local politics, with his past largely ignored by the media, only to emerge as the new marxist mayor of New York City, something the communists tried but couldn’t do in the 1940’s.

THere are hundreds of DeBlasio’s out there in local, state and national government leadership positions from city and town councilmen/women, state representatives/senators, mayors, governors (O’Malley of Maryland is a hardcore marxist), in the Congress and in the White House.

They are in the school boards, a few as administrators, esp. in California, and are designing national educational programs (Ayers and his friends).

I won’t even mention how many reds are college instructors and professors. Not enough room here to list them all.

Kengor is right. We won the big Cold War against the Soviets, ignored the Red Chinese, achieves some limited victories in Latin America only to have the Democrats piss them away over the past 20 years, and totally ignored “The New Marxists” who now are literally directing the subversion and destruction of America’s basic foundations - education, work ethic, religious beliefs, equality, patriotism, and morals.

We have a long, hard fight against both the marxist moles and termites, and against the uneducated, low-educated, don’t want to be educated “masses” of America.

Kengor has pointed this all out in his column which should be widely disseminated to friends and strangers alike.

The question is, “Is anyone listening or reading”? From what we have seen of the majority of our youth and our voters, the answer is a devastately sad “NO”.

That reminds me of another quote by Khrushchev.

"We will bury you"

But it was translated incorrectly.

What he really said was: "We will be there at your funeral".

Never thought it would come to this, but he seems to be correct.

50 years ago nobody could fathom that the United States would one day GLADLY embrace communism.

Not only that, but people who REJECT socialism in America are considered "oddballs" and "terrorists" that MUST BE DESTROYED.

Good story. From Wikipedia:

The 18th Division was an infantry division in the III Corps of the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN). The U.S. Military Assistance Command Vietnam considered the 18th as undisciplined and was well known throughout the ARVN for its “cowboy” reputation. In 1975 the 18th was made famous as the only ARVN division that stood fast and refused to surrender before Saigon fell.

During the last major battle of the Vietnam War, the vastly outnumbered 18th Division stood and fought at Xuan Loc, 38 miles north of Saigon. This battle is considered the epic last stand of ARVN forces, where the 18th earned the name “The Supermen”. It was commanded by General Le Minh Dao, a smart, conservative and emotional commander.

The 18th made a defiant apocalyptic last stand against communist forces in Xuan Loc, a city strategically important for intersecting five main routes. The fierce fighting raged for two weeks. The 18th Division, outnumbered 7:1 by the People’s Army of Vietnam (PAVN) forces, destroyed all but three PAVN divisions before finally being overwhelmed by superior numbers. The division was forced to evacuate from the city on April 21, 1975, nine days before the fall of Saigon. Upon learning the 18th had lost “Xuan Loc” that afternoon at 3:00pm President Nguyen Van Thieu made a tearful televised speech that was broadcast around the world in which he blamed the United States for abandoning South Vietnam ; he closed the speech by resigning the presidency.

The 18th was finally destroyed while defending Bien Hoa Air Base. South Vietnam surrendered on the afternoon of 30 April 1975.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Until I read your post I’d not realized just what a close fought thing that battle was. Without the betrayal of Congressional Democrats South Vietnam would be another South Korea - free and prosperous.

I am an American. My prayer is that God will spare us, if only a handful of righteous remain. Regardless, God will sort the righteous from the dross.

Commie profs are a dime a dozen. They weren't so "in your face" when I was in college. Or maybe they weren't even employed at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, which in retrospect is a good thing because Army ROTC was an extremely powerful and large organization then. We'd have had to go counsel the man while using the Darth Vader counselling technique. I'll wager there were no vets in his class, either. At least I hope no vet would let that one just slide...
