Does Jay have a double standard?On Friday, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made his first appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
Leno, allegedly in his last season as host of the Tonight Show, has not been known as a particularly partisan entertainer,
so it was surprising to see him go "Candy Crowley" on Ted Cruz...-- snip --
...Some on Twitter compared Leno to a prosecuting attorney as he interrupted Cruz and accused him
of everything from shutting down the government to wanting violent psychopaths to have guns.Cruz, for his part, used the appearance to his advantage, clearly understanding both the venue and the audience.It seemed to go over well with the audience, which erupted into cheers after several of Cruz’s points...
Although Cruz is certainly more than capable of holding his own in a debate with Leno,
he chose mostly to keep his powder dry, defying the media-generated image of him as a hostile aggressor.
He was relaxed and laid back, despite the tough questioning.THIS THREAD will help to review, analyze and document that historic event. :)

“How did he look?”
I thought pretty good, seeing as Leno was obviously hostile, and putting out a lot of “ums” and ‘huhs” when Cruz was talking, indicating he didn’t agree with Cruz and couldn’t wait for the chance to say so - very rude.. I rarely watch Leno but don’t recall him ever doing that with anyone else.
It would have been good if Cruz could have lightened the atmosphere and not come across so serious, but with Leno setting the tone like that, it just was not possible.
I watched a little.
The crowd seemed very enthusiastic for Cruz, even before he was on.
But Jay invited so many straw men into the room that I just turned it off and went to bed. Kind of disappointed at how much of a jerk Leno turned out to be. He could have at least started off with some cordiality. It did make Cruz seem pretty cool and collected though.
Very relaxed.
I think Harris Faultner finally got the memo to dress a bit more sedately.
I was just watching the video from the link. Ted Cruz kept getting interrupted by Mr. Lowinfo. Leno is a certified idiot. Most, not all, of what Cruz did get out were platitudes.
Ted looked and acted and sounded good. Leno = Delta BravoLOL.Don't waste your time watching it. Nothing earth shattering.
Don't even know why it's threadworthy.

I had a somewhat different view. Leno was being Devil’s Advocate. He was getting to the heart of the Cruz opposition and promoting the response. Rather than a detractor, I think maybe Leno is a Cruz fan. This was after all NBC, the DNC propaganda organ.
Cruz always prevailed. As a matter of fact, in prevailing he aroused the audience to heavy agreement and applause.
Nothing “surprising” here at all! Just because Leno has been after 0bama a little bit, people think he’s now some friend of conservatives. But he was simply brutal on Bush when he was in office, when I stopped watching him.
I used to love the guy, but stopped watching sometime early in the Bush 43 presidency. he was cruel and relentless toward GWB and other conservatives.
While many are aghast at Leno’s hostile attitude, I think he actually did Cruz a favor. Cruz demonstrated that he can handle tough situations, not lose his composure, and has a wealth of information to back his stance. In my opinion, he certainly won over the crowd. At one point it appeared Leno had to go to break before Cruz could respond to an implication Leno threw out (typical Democrat trick of putting out false implications, then not allowing a response-much like we saw in the VA governor’s race). I view this much like sports. Do you want to see your team play the lowest ranked opponent or do you want to see them in a hotly contested match? Cruz showed he has the metal to go forward and the contest shows how badly Democrats fear him.
We watched it. My husband does NOT get swept away, but watches and analyzes. We both thot Ted Cruz did an excellent job! He stayed on topic, regardless of Leno’s constant interruptions. He was positive, focused. He knew what he thought and he did not hesitate to say it. You could tell he really believed it! How refreshing. We were both very impressed. Wished the cameras had focused on the loud and proud Tea Party contingent. Thanks RonDog et al.

Leno did not act like his usual affable self with Cruz, he acted very nervous.

Cruz was great. Lanternjaw was, too, until Cruz came out.
Then it was like some stagehand stuck a stick up his a**.

or at least get into the fight for controlling it.Of course, they could have learned the technique by watching the behavior Democrats over the past few decades.

Had he let Cruz speak without cutting him off with another gotcha, I would agree...but he didn’t. He kicked off a bunch of chain fire questions with complicated answers and kept cutting him off.
It would have been good if Cruz could have lightened the atmosphere and not come across so serious,THAT was my biggest disappointment: the way that this interview got bogged down in POLICY arguments,
but with Leno setting the tone like that, it just was not possible.
I see Jay hitting all the liberal talking points
