What do these Doolittle raid heroes have in common with all the groundbreaking Generals that created the Air Force?

They ALL WERE IN THE ARMY!

Since the AF broke away it’s been a mess.

Carry on Fighter Mafia...

They read the names of each of 16 crews, one plane at a time. Descendants stood up while the plane number of their Raider and the names of the four man crew was read.

Very moving.

The goblets are being presented to the three Raiders present, in preparation for the toast. Each goblet has their name on it.

Goblets belonging to those who have passed on are present, but overturned.

Speaker says this concludes our ceremony, and this concludes the mission.

The final toast has been observed.

Reception at the B-25 in the museum to follow, Raiders will be there as well.

Thank you, Gentlemen, and all who served with you on the raid on Tokyo. You defied the odds, performed your charge with bravery, skill, and fortitude, and electrified an entire country, lifting its morale in the post-Pearl Harbor era when the days were so dark.

May God bless you and keep you, and may we never forget what you did for us.

I deeply appreciate your bringing this to the class' attention, this evening. Vicarious though it may be, it was a personal honor to view that ceremony, and to remember what an effect on American morale it was to project air power, on target, when so few believed it to be possible. In it's way, happening when it did, the Tokyo raid was as important as the city-busting, morale crushing atomic bombs dropped on the enemy's Home Islands only a bit more than three years later.

May God grant our nation always have volunteers for dangerous missions.

Just damn. I missed it by minutes.

My blessings upon the last of the Raiders. We shall not see their like again in our lifetime.

To these last few heroes, I say only: “I’m sorry we let the flag falter these last five years.”

I had the unique pleasure to be at the last public reunion of the Raiders this past summer in Fort Walton Beach, Fl. My dad, who is a WWII vet, had an opportunity to fly in a B-25 that was at the event.

Doolittle’s co-pilot, Bob Cole, flew a B-25 at the reunion and it was said that he still had the ability at his age to hold altitude and actually landed the aircraft.

Listening to the stories that the Raiders told gave me a new appreciation for the “greatest generation”.

There are only 4 survivors remaining. One is in very bad shape and wasn’t at the reunion and it appears he isn’t at this event either. When these fellows are gone, a chapter of American history and bravery will close with their passing. Here’s hoping they someday reunite with the other 76 fliers that await them in heaven.

We may never see their like again, anytime, sad to say!

Sarge, the flag has certainly faltered lately, but you are among those who fought for it in youth and fight for it still! It has faltered but will not fall unless we let it fall. I will resist that with my last breath, as I know you will, Brother!

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

Eagles Up! Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more!
