That's right. Ted Cruz to be on Leno tonight. Looking forward to FReepers comments as they are always informative and many are very humorous at the same time. Buckle up FReepers. I'm sure that Ted and Jay will keep us both informed and entertained.
Stay tuned or set your DVRs (NBC). This should be great. Go Cruz!
Hopefully, this is posted early enough to give FReepers time to plan on watching or recording. I will do both :)

Leno showed his true colors tonight:

I watched the video. He came across as a cub reporter intern trying to score a gotcha soundbite. It was obviously written by staffers who are showing off their immature pit yorkie snarling bark and who's thought process was probably grafted from a leftist blog. This didn't elevate Jay at all.

Can you imagine if Johnny Carson was still alive doing this interview? Put aside the fact Johnny was Conservative, it would have had a lot more humor and flowed like a magnificent river.

!? Carson was a strong leftist, but he was clever enough to partially conceal it from his audience.

BINGO, taildragger!
VERY disappointed with Jay.
Senator Cruz has his work cut out for him.
Check this out, from variety.com:
...Cruz might have become a darling of conservatives and a driving force in the recent government shutdown, but he seemed ill-equipped for Leno, and slightly taken aback by the latenight host’s questioning regarding the shutdown, the GOP emphasis on social issues (Leno has previously articulated a more accepting, libertarian view of gay marriage, for one) and the general vitriol in Washington.

In fact, Leno — who doesn’t really have to worry about losing the gig at this point — delivered as many applause lines as Cruz mustered, keeping the senator mired in discussions of policy while offering scant opportunity to flash any of his lighter side, which is one of the reasons politicians gravitate toward the latenight couch. (Cruz did get in a line about his daughter and his reading Dr. Seuss during his filibuster, but that qualified as too little, too late.)

Relegated to the second guest spot (after Mariska Hargitay of NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”), Cruz still had ample time to pitch his positions, and certainly earned some national exposure among those who pay scant attention to politics.

That said, if he really does harbor presidential ambitions, as Leno referenced, he’s going to need to work on this more casual aspect of his portfolio, beyond just wearing boots and no tie.

THIS was my biggest disappointment.
I was REALLY hoping that Senator Cruz would be able to open up about his FAMILY, etc...
The "Tonight Show" is supposed to be about ENTERTAINMENT, Jay - not a cheap political hatchet job.

I’m seriously considering canceling my cable. Just switch to the internet exclusively.

Not sure, but I am now considering it.

I had been bored but ok with it, now I’m a little bit p’o’d.

We need to starve this beast.

Jay came across as a snot. However Ted did well enough, given the tone of the interview and limitations of he faced, such as not being allowed to explain things fully.

You conservatives in the audience did a good job too, cheering at the right moments, and showing support. At one point Jay looked a bit irritated at the cheering.

That "ghostly" image photobombing your marvelous picture of the PolitiChicks...
...just above the Senator's right sleeve...
...would be me, with my "game face" on. ;)

Ted did well enough...
Sigh.
That was my analysis, too.
We were really hoping for much more.
Much of the night for us (and for the Senator) seemed like "damage control." :(

Cruz had to think fast totally cold and make sure not to have a slip up.

I ran for school committee in a moonbat town, and participated in many hostile interviews and debates. I can tell you that doing hostile interviews well is very, very difficult to do. That's why Democraps avoid Fox.

The reason is because to do an interview well, you don't want to be "the accused," constantly rebutting antagonistic questions. You also want to push your own agenda, expose the agenda of the accuser, and come across as friendly. On top of that, you want to make your answers brief and memorable.

I couldn't do it. The best I could do was brush the hostile questions aside and push my own agenda.

I've seen Cruz handle several hostile interviews masterfully, accomplishing all of these goals.

Cruz is as intelligent as Dershowitz said.

First, you are welcome!

The best (and most unrecognized) line of that night was delivered by Cruz when he said that the problem is not the party competition, it’s the politicians against the citizens.

That is what will win it for conservatism.

Thank you for organizing the FReep and attending, RonDog! Fell asleep here but watched the recording this morning.
DJ and onyx gave me the heads up to post the thread.
Great job! We could hear the cheers loud and clear.
Ted made great points and corrected the misplaced blame for Obama’s shutdown on the GOP.

Come on! It's Jay's job to grill folks in an engaging way. That is his job!

Jay's m.o. with politicians of both parties, Romney included, is to ask simple questions, to bring up funny anecdotes, and occassionally toss up a pillow-covered hardball.

He waa another person tonight. Pointed questions are one thing. But he wouldn't let Cruz get a sentence out before he began to talk over him with the next have-you-stopped-beating-your-wife question.

He [Jay Leno] was another person tonight.
My feelings EXACTLY.
It felt like we got "sandbagged" by Jay last night.
Senator Cruz did well, but it COULD HAVE BEEN so much better.
