Well, if that’s what he meant, yes. But the use of “depressant” in technical literature regarding alcohol is with respect to its role as a CNS depressant — nothing to do with affect at all.

Well, it can carry over into affect. Some of the grouchiest people are drunks, who might have been sad but not grouchy before getting into benders.
