Obama admin announces push on mental health care (Sebelius' big announcement)
The Washington Examiner ^ | November 8, 2013 | SUSAN FERRECHIO

The Obama administration, fresh off an apology from President Obama to Americans who are losing their current health plans under his new health care law, forged ahead Friday with rules that place mental health and substance abuse care on equal footing with medical and surgical benefits.

Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced the “historic” step in Atlanta alongside former first lady Rosalynn Carter — a longtime champion for mental health research — in a nod toward the generation-long effort to make sure millions of Americans with behavioral health problems get the same care as patients with physical issues.

“For way too long, the health care system has openly discriminated against people with behavioral health problems,” Mrs. Sebelius said on a conference call with reporters.

The announcement marks movement on one of 23 executive actions that Vice President Joe Biden developed to address gun violence in the wake of the December 2012 school shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Think of it. Kathleen Sebelius in charge of a federal agency that can declare you mentally incompetent and order you institutionalized (For your own protection). What could possibly go wrong? /s

And remember those new psych guidelines that say 50% of the population is mentally ill.

Except for pedophiles. They just have “sexual interests”.

One of the reasons why health plans after Obamacare are so expensive:

"Studies" claim over half of us are suffering from one psychological problem or another and should be on antidepressants, anti-anxiety medicine, or some other pills.

Someone's gotta pay for all this.

After 8 years of Obama, we probably all will need counseling.

If that gets tacked onto health insurance, the rates will go up even more

The liberal secular humanists are one of the primary reasons so many are "mentally ill".

They create a society in which Big Brother rules us at the same time attacking God who brings hope.

So many are in despair...and this push for mental health access with taxpayer dollars will make it worse.

They'll find something wrong with just about everyone, and then confiscate their firearms for "public safety" reasons.

The Soviets had a big program for ‘mental health’. Their institutions were well populated. Tea Partiers and gun owners can expect to be under a lot of scrutiny as candidates for this program.

She went all the way to Atlanta to make this announcement? I work in the mental health field and, unfortunately, having mental health benefits paid at the same level as any other medical issue are already being phased in and were to be effective for everyone on 1/1/2014.

The APA and their strong lobby group already fought and won this battle which in and of itself was a huge contributer to driving up the cost of health insurance.
