Terry McAuliffe establishes Democrats as party of the elites
The Washington Examiner ^ | TIMOTHY P. CARNEY

McLEAN, Va. -- Democrat Terry McAuliffe beat Republican Ken Cuccinelli in Virginia's governor race, outraising Cuccinelli nearly two-to-one and dominating in the richest part of the state.

What’s going on here?

First, upper-middle class, white suburbs have marched steadily toward the Democrats for several decades. Montgomery County, Md., and Arlington, Va., switched sides. So did the wealthy New York suburbs in Westchester County, N.Y., and Fairfield County, Conn. Philadelphia’s “collar counties," once Republican bastions, are now Democratic bellwethers.

Why are the white-collar suburbs moving to the Dems? “I think it’s the social issues,” Bill DuBose tells me at Greenberry's coffee shop in McLean.

Really? And with a few exceptions how does the GOP differentiate in any significant way on so called 'social issues'?

How can anyone look at this race and analyse it on any political basis.

He was the Clinton’s bag man. THe former chief of staff for Cantor.

He was a golden uniparty guy.

that Cuccinelli got so close is what they insiders are looking at.

just a part of game plan of dem party.

In Virgina election, Dem party tries to:

1) hit tea party

2) warm up for Hillary

3) campaign for immigrant reform.

One of the people interviewed (a Republican, btw) said she voted for McAuliffe because of “women’s issues.” I was really mystified by this, although it’s the second time I’ve seen it today in the analysis of the campaign. What exactly was she talking about?

Usually, that phrase is code for “abortion.” And of course, abortion is wildly popular with the elites, so I guess it’s just another reflection of the author’s thesis.

His final question is a good one: if the Dems are the party of the elite, who exactly does (or should) the GOP represent?

Hah! No way would an empty-suited, corrupt Clinton bagman get elected...

oh, wait... never mind.

That is a very good question and dovetails with my observations of the last decade or so. It seems that the GOP is carrying water for people who no longer support them. They are getting the bad rep with the majority of the population for sticking up for the upper middle class and Elites. Meanwhile, the Democrats laugh and walk away with the votes and contributions from those groups—all the while projecting a more populist message.

This I promise to all fellow FReepers from other states across the U.S....

If I ever chide or ridicule anything in your state... do feel free to remind me about last night’s developments in mine. Virginia is now the biggest national laughingstock of all.

You’ll notice that Ken Cuccinelli was ahead with 88% of the precincts reporting. The Democrats has to buy the last 12% to get TM in office. Why does it take longer to count Democrat areas?

Why are the white-collar suburbs moving to the Dems? “I think it’s the social issues,” Bill DuBose tells me at Greenberry's coffee shop in McLean.

So some parts of the country moved away from the GOP on social issues. But I suggest that even more sections of the country have moved to the GOP because of its stand on social issues. So does DuBose suggest they try and recapture small sections of the country at the expense of alienating larger sections?

The Republicans continue to control the state legislature. Former Democrat Governor Doug Wilder said this morning that the worst mistake McAuliffe made was bringing in Obama. He also said that that Obama care is immensely unpopular in Virginia state wide.

He also said that McAuliffe is the first governor in his memory to be elected who won less than 50% of the vote.

Former Republican Governor Gilmore said that the democrat back “Libertarian” should be investigated, but probably won’t. He also noted that with the 52% of the vote for Cuccenilli and Sarves, showed the majority of the Virginia voter were for conservative positions.

These two men were interviewed on the WMAL morning drive show this morning here in DC.

Hah! No way would an empty-suited, corrupt Clinton bagman get elected...

oh, wait... never mind.

...just two weeks ago I was driving up Route 15 through Loudoun County, and while I saw a lot of Cuccinelli signs, I saw something else that told me straight out that Macauliffe would win the county...

...what used to be bucolic horse country is now peppered with gated communities, loaded with young couples and their SUV’s, and what are these young couples doing...they are driving their broodlings to soccer games...

...that’s all I needed to see to know the county is doomed to the democrats...

Good question.
Here's who the Republicans don't represent: white, conservative middle class Americans.

The RNC only gave Cuccinelli $3,000,000 last summer, and NONE for the final two weeks when it would have made a difference in countering the $36,000,000 Macaliffe had spent in portraying him as an “extremist.” The RNC and Priebus would rather have a Clinton thug in office than a TEA Party-endorsed Republican.

No more money or votes to the Republicans from this household.

Is there any reason Ken shouldn’t run for Senate next year against Warner?

In early voting, single women voted for McAwful 87 to 13. In Italian they have a word for those who did: Putana. Yup, anyone who puts abortion and state paid for birth control over all other issues fits the bill to a T. Think S. Fluke.
