The first month of the new health laws rollout reveals an unexpected pattern in several states: a crush of people applying for an expansion of Medicaid and a trickle of sign-ups for private insurance.
This early imbalance in some places, nine out of 10 enrollees are in Medicaid has taken some experts by surprise. The Affordable Care Act, which expanded Medicaid to cover millions of the poorest Americans who couldnt otherwise afford coverage, envisions a more even split with an expanded, robust private market.
When we first saw the numbers, everyones eyes kind of bugged out, said Matt Salo, who runs the National Association of Medicaid Directors. Of the people walking through the door, 90 percent are on Medicaid. Were thinking, what planet is this happening on?
The yawning gap between public and private enrollment is handing Republicans yet another line of criticism against President Obamas health overhaul that the law is primarily becoming an expansion of a costly entitlement program.
Supporters, however, caution against reading too much into the early numbers. Some of the states that set up their own exchanges, including Maryland, are suffering Web site glitches similar to those of the national system, and that is delaying private plan enrollments.....

But will they pay for the rest??
LOL
It looks like they might need to pass amnesty. Somebody is going to have to pay for all these Medicaid types. It might as well be the illegal aliens.
SRSLY? All the amnestitized masses will flood onto Medicaid themselves. Certainly the vast majority will, and they will be a huge net cost added on to our backs.
LOL, nice.
The Affordable Care Act initially required all states to expand Medicaid to cover everyone earning less than 138 percent of the federal poverty line (about $15,000 for an individual or $32,500 for a family of four). The Supreme Court found that policy unconstitutional in its June 2012 ruling on the health law, giving states the discretion on whether to expand.
But...but...but. Juan McCain and the RINOs say that the illegals won’t be able to get welfare while they are on the FreeWay to Freeloaderville. LOL!
Why are they shocked at this? Health insurance was ALREADY affordable. Obama has jacked up the prices with mandates, and given some people subsidies to get the price back down to where it used to be. Who out there is going to buy it now if they didn’t want to before?
A simple PSA advertising campaign could’ve got this many more people to sign up for health insurance without this whole stupid law. Even with the Medicaid, the article says 1/3rd of the people signing up were ALREADY eligible and didn’t actually need the new higher cap on wages to qualify.
Just like with gun control, simply enforcing the law, or simply advertising what the law already is in this case, is all you need to solve the problem. You don’t need new laws.
Planet Reality.
They could pass that and in 2 weeks a lawsuit will be filed, and a judge will rule it's discriminatory to make them into second-class citizens in a Jim Crow-style law that gives them less privileges than everyone else. Mark my words.
I don't even disagree with that premise. If someone's going to be an immigrant, they should have the same full privileges as any citizen does. We are a welcoming country. But no one who jumps ahead in line and comes in illegally should get any privileges. You can't protect immigrant rights by giving some people the special privilege to live here when they didn't wait their turn in line.
Exactly. The ‘RATS know all this crap they are feeding us would be overturned in THEIR courts in a heartbeat. It’s all lies. That’s all that’s coming down from the fools on Capitol Hill these days. LIES!
How could these people have gotten past puberty without hearing the truism, “the market for free stuff is infinite”? No one who’s actually spent some time living in the real world would have expected anything else.
Of the people walking through the door, 90 percent are on Medicaid. Were thinking, what planet is this happening on?
The planet where Obamacare was a beyond atrocious deal to begin with for those who buy their medical care themselves, perhaps?
It's happening in the real world, not in liberal fantasyland.
The moochers and the looters are checkin’ in!
A more relevant question might be, what planet are the National Association of Medicaid Directors on? Including the MENSA graduate who runs it, and still doesn't get it!.
“Unexpected”
“This early imbalance in some places, nine out of 10 enrollees are in Medicaid has taken some experts by surprise.”
Surprised by leeches signing up for free stuff???
Wow. These experts are way more stupid than anybody thought!
Ah, please tell me that this was not expected by the left?
Of course it was, as is most of their legislation (it’s only the Republicans and the Media that are surprised). Can’t we just all get along!
