Because the FDA labeling system is based on hazard (GMO has none) and on nutritional composition (GMO is not nutritionally different).

If you want to buy non GMO foods, buy certified Organic and pay the price premium. Stop trying to force those costs on the rest of us consumers who aren’t afraid of GMO foods.

This fear and hysteria is manufactured by the Organic Lobby to increase their market share and shore up their perceived value.

People die every year from eating contaminated organic foods. Nobody has EVER died from eating GMO foods.

So what good does a label that says “may contain GMO” do you?

Apparently, the labeling laws that have been written have been overly complicated, incomplete at the same time not complete enough.

Raising GMO grain is a mess. No one should want it in their area.

We have seen some examples out here in WA and Oregon, where Monsanto had test farms years ago. After lying fallow for years and being recently sold, the new farmer found that no matter what he did, he was still raising GMO grain and being sued by Monsanto. He never planted the GMO grain, but he couldn’t get rid of it and Monsanto wouldn’t let him sell it without paying them a fee.

Remember the anti-cholesterol craze. The put the words “low in cholesterol” on everything from orange juice to kidney beans. People would not buy anything without that reassurance.

People opposed to genetically modified foods want all such food products off the market. They think such foods create reactions in he human body that are dangerous. They have no scientific proof of it. It is like those who thought that vaccines in children caused autism. The reality was that such genetic defects were the result of conceiving children late in life.

In the case of GMOs, if you could create a hysteria about all GMOs, then force food producers to identify their products with GMOs, people who bought into the hysteria would not buy their products. That would eliminate such products from the market.
