The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on marketing materials and promotional items for a pair of conferences that cost taxpayers at least $6.1 million.

Included was $50,000 on a parody video of the Oscar-winning movie Patton and a request to have the Washington Redskins cheerleaders appear at a kick-off event.

...and there often is no money to medically treat veterans. These VA managers are criminal ghouls. They should be fired...or imprisoned.

And they have taken over two years to review a clearly documented SRD claim because they are "understaffed and underfunded".

Sometimes it is hard not to be a little bitter.

Often? As a vet I have yet to see or hear anyone being denied treatment for service connection, in fact at times they go overboard with treatment.

I guess my husband is just chopped liver...he can't even get VA benefits...they can blow money on their fun and games but shouldn't their first responsibility be to ensure every veteran gets services?

I have an inlaw who is a clerk type in the VA system mostly in the accounting area....the VA rewards him once or twice a year to New Orleans or Nashville or similar for "conferences"...now, what are they teaching there other than greed and avarice that they couldn't teach on line or in their own hospitals?

In 3 of the VA hospitals I’ve worked in nursing staff were bringing in toiletries, pillows and other items from home for patients use. Anything the government runs goes sub standard.

Most people cannot imagine how dislocated government workers are from private sector workers.

Imagine a job where you’re paid 30% to sky’s-the-limit more than your degree or skills or attitude would allow in a competitive marketplace.

Imagine a job where you have so many days off that vacation time doesn’t feel any different, where the benefits are so good you’d think you’re still living with mom and dad, and where you cannot be fired.

The government workers I know at the local, state and federal level quite literally don’t know where the money for their paychecks comes from. It just shows up.
