Righteous indignation over US spying seen as naive in Israel
FoxNews ^ | Oct 29, 2013 | Paul Alster

But instead of the indignation seen in France, Spain and Germany at the prospect that the National Security Agency listened in to the phone calls of top leaders, Israelis seem to take in stride the prospect of Uncle Sam listening in.

“I think it is almost a universal assumption that everyone tries to spy on everyone,” Mark Heller, of Tel Aviv’s Institute for National Security Studies told FoxNews.com.

“It’s almost a given” Heller continued. “The whole story reminds me of the scene from Casablanca when the Chief of Police is shocked to find out that there is gambling going on in the casino!”

I agree.

That is the only rational assumption that everyone is trying to spy on everyone else and everyone tries to prevent others spying on them.

As for the NSA -- in my personal opinion, they should focus on the important things -- such as they should have focused on spying on the Boston Marathon bomber brothers, after having been warned by Russia multiple times, instead of collecting all info, and lose the important material.

Yep. as I said on another thread, countries don’t create friendships. They create alliances, as we did with the USSR during WWII.

The survival of your country is the responsibility of your government. And spying on even your “friends” is prudent. You never know what “new alliances” they may be working on. If their interests and your interests are not in harmony, you need to know what may be going on in their back rooms.

The purpose of the “international” spaying reports is to divert attention away from spying on US citizens.

“Righteous indignation over US spying seen as naive in Israel”

The fact that Israel awarded the fascist soda jerk Bloomberg the Israeli equivalent of the Nobel prize is amazingly stupid. Now, who is more naive?

It’s not an Israeli prize, it was awarded by the Genesis Philanthropy Group, a charity owned by three Russian billionaires. I’m sure Israel is pleased by the support for Russian speaking Jews, as I suspect are Russian speaking Jews in the USA, and Jews in Russia and the Ukraine, but it’s hardly an Israeli group.

Given how often that image shows up here, I wonder if Mr Heller is a Freeper?

Of course it’s naive. But keep it up. Indifference is the best ally of tyrants.

Since revelations have come out about the U.S. spying on the personal homes of Israel’s leaders, this more than vindicates my many calls to free Jonathan Pollard. The hypocritical whining from the U.S. about Pollard’s successful attempt to protect Israel from its vicious enemies, Saddam Hussein and Casper Weinberger.
