tarbucks has become the latest foreign firm to be roasted by China's state-run media, with a series of accusations that the world's largest coffee shop chain is overcharging Chinese consumers.

State broadcaster CCTV aired a seven-minute report criticising the firm's pricing in China, arguing that a tall latte in Beijing is more expensive than in London, Chicago and Mumbai.

The report on Sunday gave the price of a Beijing latte as 27 yuan ($4.42), compared with 24.25 yuan ($3.97) in London, 19.98 yuan ($3.26) in Chicago and 14.6 yuan ($2.39) in Mumbai.

If they are overpriced, then some mom and pops ought to be able to compete and beat them.

An overpriced commodity isn’t a bad thing, it means there is an open door for the entrepreneur who wants a chance.

in the memorable words of a corrupt former anti-American government hack, “what difference does it make?” —

Star*ucks overcharges Americans, too, and they continue to flock in there to plunk down $5 for 25 cents worth of beverage.

If you know and agree to pay the price, it’s not an “overcharge.” That’s how capitalism works.

You can’t make this stuff up. Starbucks is overcharging everyone. That is, everyone except those of us who won’t drink their mud.

Well, if they don't want to pay Starbucks, go to Dunkin Dognuts.

Personally, I can't see how anybody would pay for the swill Starbucks sells.

Charging ANYTHING for that swill is criminal. It tastes like burnt cardboard. Doesn’t smell like it was anywhere near a coffee bean, ever! Someone gave me a cup and I added instant Community coffee and chickory to it to make it semi-drinkable!BLEH-the Chinese are better off with tea.

They can’t overcharge you if you don’t buy it. Pretty simple...

I hate Starbucks, but who is forcing these people to buy there? Stop patronizing them, and prices will drop in a hurry.

My screen name says it all - when yuppies walked the Earth, Starbucks attracted them like flies to sh##$. Of course, the young, wealthy, “sophisticated” market has kind of dried up here...especially given that mom or dad has to drive them to the place.
