De Blasio, Other City Leaders Promise Immigration Reform

Democratic mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio said Wednesday that he is committed to immigration reform, regardless of whether the laws change in Washington.

As 1010 WINS’ Stan Brooks reported, de Blasio joined other city leaders as they told a cheering crowd of immigrants massed on the City Hall steps Wednesday that they would do whatever they can to change the laws.

“All of us are here committed to work with Bill de Blasio as mayor to make sure this remains an immigrant city – not just in name, but in a place with every possible opportunity for immigrants in every neighborhood in any way,” said City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

De Blasio himself emphasized how important immigrants have been to the city’s history.

“Immigration made New York City great; made us strong; made us the creative capital of the world,” he said.

City Comptroller John Liu told the crowd that immigrants have revitalized the city for 400 years with their blood, sweat, and tears.

The city leaders said they plan to push for measures such as an identification card, so those who are undocumented can go about their everyday lives, can take care of their families, can get a bank account, can get a lease, and can actually participate more fully in the life of the city.

It sounds like this dumbass de Blasio needs some yard work done and his pool cleaned. ‘RATS! They sure love “the little people” when it comes to yard work.

Not much of that in New York City. Tiny yards and few pools in the concrete jungle. But he’ll welcome back the Squeegee guys that were banished by Giuliani, if they want to supplement their welfare check. Hard working types and mere monomillionaires will be moving out of New Detroit.

...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let’s start that conversation by acknowledging we aren’t going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

[but he’s not in favor of amnesty, snicker, definition of is is]
