Old utopians may die, but utopianism never does fade away. While speaking at a summit of Nobel Peace Prize winners in Warsaw on Monday, Nobel Laureate and former Polish president Lech Walesa added Modern-day Moses of Magog to his résumé, advocating a secular Ten Commandments as a basis for universal values. Said Walesa, We need to agree on common values for all religions as soon as possible, a kind of secular Ten Commandments on which we will build the world of tomorrow, reports France 24.
Ah, build the world of tomorrow. Somehow that reminds me of WWI being the war to end all wars or, to cite intended fiction, the paternalistic android in an old Star Trek episode that summed up his purpose in dominating man by saying, And you will be happy
and controlled. Captain Kirk was not amused.

We need to agree on common values for all religions as soon as possible
Uhh, HOW in the WORLD does any OTHER religion find “common values” WITH ISLAM????
CHRISTIANITY helped this idiot kick out the Russians
If the progressives rewrote them all the “though shalt not” commandments would be modified with “unless you’re sure you can get away with it”.
OOPS! That’s THOU shalt not.
The Muslims won’t want the one that says, “Thou shalt not kill.” The Leftists won’t want “Thou shalt not steal.” The pagans of all stripes won’t want “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
So they will only have Seven Commandments, and most will require governments to make life “fair” for the victim classes, most of whom have problems that are caused by the actions of governments.
Persecution of Christians has arrived once again.
John 15:18 - If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before [it hated] you.
And just who decides?
Who will “enforce” these “guidelines?”
You can walk through the commandments and show that the left is diametrically in opposition to every one of them.
"Thou shalt not covet thy muslim neighbor's 9 year old wife...or his favorite goat."
Also, in the 1650's Christianity helped kick out the Muslims out of Poland, after 300 years of torture and slavery. This loon doesn't know his own history.
He’s a good example of a person who has risen to the level of his own incompetence.
He was a shipyard electrician, and he’d do well to stick to talking about wiring.
Walesa is another Satan. The purpose of the Ten Commandment is to lead us to God, not build a better world. These utopian pushes always result in death.

Excellent reply!
Almighty God wrote the 10 commandments. To re-write them is to usurp God’s position as God and put yourself in His place. Always a bad move. God will not be mocked.
Praise Jesus!
Utopianism is a childish dream that doesn’t take into consideration individuality and can only be implemented through tyranny.
The secular 10 commandments have to be based on the biblical 10 commandments or they won’t work.
Lech should know that from his association with JPII.
And what possible objective foundation could you have for a “secular” 10 commandments?
"The world is trying the experiment of attempting to form a civilized but non-Christian mentality. The experiment will fail; but we must be very patient in awaiting its collapse; meanwhile redeeming the time; so that the Faith may be preserved alive through the dark ages before us; to renew and rebuild civilization, and to save the world from suicide."
T.S. Eliot, Christianity and Culture
Now with that out of the way to indicate my overall attitude toward this I do want to note that Walensa is actually bringing up a simpleton version of Natural Law which we all understand in different manners.
Many conservatives note that there is an enduring Order, one from God and one of man.
If God's enduring laws are reflected in public society, that reflection can be termed, Natural Law -- or, in other words, the civil law framework where believers in agreement can find common ground to write secular law without haveing to make a Theocracy.
It is even like saying we are a Christian nation when we mean Judeo-Christian in general and not a nation with an Established church. It indicates that our laws and government going to have a common Natural Law basis that agrees with western christendom.
What is outside that tradition, and what Walsensa may be awkwardly be refering to, is Islam and certain other beliefs that do not hold to the same core values or commandments.
Now, I certainly realize that we could have a hundred pages of controversy on "natural law" as to what it means under what uses and abuses, but the one aspect I cite is not all that obscure or off base. Walensa is to be respected most for what he did to break the communist stranglehold, he is not a great philospher or statesman.
The ORIGINAL 10 COMMANDMENTS ARE ALL THAT MAN NEEDS.
Trekkies already ahead of you, Lech. It,s the Prime Directive. Best seen in action ‘StarTeek, Voyager’.
