Alexis de Tocqueville once prophesied "The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money." The Left vehemently denies that their social spending is anything but altruistic. Any correlation between federal spending on individual aid and voting behavior would reveal this altruism to be politically self-serving.
The Left's denial (e.g., Klein, Matthews, Altman, Ponnuru) is often based on state-level observations and Moran has claimed that red states receive greater benefit from federal spending than blue states. The Right (e.g., Bauer and Romney) innately believes that federal largesse buys votes, but has provided little empirical data to back up their belief. Rayne has astutely countered claims of red state welfare, but has not addressed the issue of the influence of social spending on voting behavior.
The 2012 election results have been data mined to determine if a measurable correlation exists between social spending and voting behavior and demonstrate why state-level correlations are misleading. Accurate accounting of the influence of socioeconomic factors on voting behavior will be critical for the 2014 midterm and 2016 election strategies, as well as understanding the political dynamics of current issues including:the fight over federal spending; the expanding welfare, food stamp, and/or disability recipients; immigration reform/amnesty; and ObamaCare.
One key element of obtaining meaningful information from statistical analysis is the determination of the proper sample size. Large sample sizes can obscure trends that are obvious in smaller, more homogeneous subsets. Thus, it should not be unexpected that observations drawn from a statewide basis could mask correlations that exist on a much more local precinct basis. As Tip O'Neill once said "all politics is local."

Does a bear drop a smelly Obama in the woods?
He who robs Peter to pay Paul, will always get Paul’s vote.
Socialist# 2 “It's so crazy, it might just work!”
Do we have a Kenyan in the White House?
The Left vehemently denies that their social spending is anything but altruistic.
Why would they lie?...
Is the pope still Catholic?
Is global warming still a scam?
Does a witch weight the same as a duck?
Social Justice: “Were telling you to do what we say Jesus said and having the government make sure you do it.”
What a rediculous question.
Of course it does.
Does your ability to get food, shelter, and basic necessities influence you decisions?
If you are dependent on someone for those very basic necessities, and are born into an environment where for 2-3 generations your entire family was dependent on someone...for grins sake let’s just say it was your local Conregessional Representative and Senator...who were making these things available to you, would that influence your vote?
Do you think for an instant you would consider voting for someone who came along and said you were actually going to have to work hard for, or do something more to keep getting what you have been used to getting your entire life?
The answer is obvious...and those answeres tell you how insidious a condition that the liberals, socialistss, progressives, compasisonat consewrvatives, whatever you want to label them have created to ensure their own hold on power.
Problem is...there comes a tipping point where the people who are actually working and have the self respect and underlying moral foundations to be involved in productive, honest labor, are not numerous enough to continue to support the perverted system these power mongers have created. when that point is reached, it all comes tumbling down and it gets really ugly. That’s where we are headed...soon.

If you had the mentality of a 9 yr old,
who would you vote for?
The Dentist or the Easter Bunny?
This plot demonstrates the voting for 0bama tends to cause one to receive gov't "assistance".
Interesting analysis.
If I put up a bird feeder will I get squirrels?
I would debate this point. Student loans are government assistance. The university staff are mostly government employees. The local economy depends on this infusion of government subsidies. I think this actually strengthens the authors conclusions.
Lottsa students are apparently getting Food Stamps.
Government spending is a misallocation of resources, it might seem to “help” the local economy but it is false. You take $100 out of the economy and think government putting $15 back in, where it decides and not where the market decides, and applaud that your community is now $15 richer.
It’s bogus.
I live in Maryland dude, NUFF said??
When the voters receive 50.1% of the benefits it’s over. The voters will keep voting themselves a pay raise every time.
