While I've generally liked Merkel until now...

The goal is to achieve extensive, communal control of national budgets, of public borrowing in the 28 EU capitals

Uhh, Angela? You sure you want centralized command and control?

It would be far better to let each country be independent, as this will keep the debt-causers (big spending government bureaucrats) closer to those who will feel the impact of their perfidy (the common citizen, the average voter).

Well, except for one the Germans don't like to talk about much.

Fascinating — Germany is near full employment, yet all the dips can think to do is figuring out more ways to spend money, “and don’t even have to raise taxes”. Quickest way out of that “crisis” is to hand over control to Brussels, which is the intent (that’s the agenda item that comes over from the other “partner” in this “grand coalition”). Thanks Olog-hai.
