Moscow (AFP) - Russia's prison service on Friday announced it would transfer Pussy Riot punk Nadezhda Tolokonnikova to another penal colony after she went on hunger strike complaining of slave-labour conditions and threats.

Tolokonnikova, 23, is serving a two-year sentence in a penal colony in the Mordovia region of central Russia for the band's protest against President Vladimir Putin in a Moscow church.

On September 23 she began an eight-day hunger strike demanding to be moved to another penal colony. It ended with her being taken to a hospital run by the prison service and placed on a drip.

On Friday the prison service said she had signed a statement that she was once more "refusing to take food" after being moved back to her penal colony.

Hours later, it announced that she would be transferred to another colony.

"Due to a message submitted to the Russian Prison Service by Nadezhda Tolokonnikova about ensuring her personal safety, the leadership of the service has decided to transfer her from Penal Colony No. 14 in Mordovia to another penitential institution," it said.

As is standard practice, relatives will only be informed of her new location within 10 days, it said. It was not immediately clear if she was carrying on with the new hunger strike.

Tolokonnikova's husband Pyotr Verzilov told AFP he believed the prison service took the decision under pressure.

"It's the result of pressure from the public and the authorities, and especially the harsh comment from (Kremlin rights ombudsman Vladimir) Lukin this morning," he said.

Lukin told Moscow Echo radio station that the prison service had "deceived" him after promising to consider transferring Tolokonnikova if she halted her hunger strike.

Tolokonnikova last month released a letter detailing how inmates were treated like "slaves" and worked

“Actually they were protesting the Russian Orthodox Church for going along quietly with Putin’s elimination of the free press and free speech.”

I did not recall that specifically from when I first heard about it, so I looked it up, and Wikipedia mentions nothing of free press and free speech.

Based on their acts, IMHO, they got just what they deserved.

>>>>1) You don’t have to be a communist to not like Putin. 2) You don’t have to be a communist to not like the behavior of the Orthodox Church. 3) If I root for a football player, does that make me a football player?<<<<

1) You might don’t like herpes but will you cut your genitals off if you have it?

2) I might don’t like my cat’s behavior sometimes. Do I need to choke and skin her?

3) Well, it was an exaggeration on my side, sorry. It only makes you a communist supporter. But does it make a difference?

Yes, she’s hot. About as hot as Hanoi Jane when she was that young, and for the same reason, I’d touch neither of the commie whores.

So, this Bolshevik group is back in the news again, eh? If not for the name of the group, their outrageous stunts, etc., no one would have ever heard about them.

All the best action movie prison dramas are set in Russian prisons, so they must really be bad.

Re post 39-——— I recall reading a real interesting account some years ago about how the women’s lib movement was secretly funded and assisted by the KGB. The intention ,of course, was to weaken family and societal ties in the West. They were quite successful. I think some of the records leaked out after the Soviet collapse.
