The USS Virginia and the USS Minnesota will be the first two gender-integrated fast-attack submarines, the Navy announced Tuesday.
Six women four nuclear-trained officers and two supply corps officers will report to the subs by January 2015, after completing the nuclear submarine training pipeline, according to the Navy.
Women are already serving aboard the ballistic missile subs the USS Wyoming, USS Louisiana and USS Maine, and the guided missile subs USS Florida, USS Georgia and USS Ohio.
The Navy in 2010 officially changed the policy that had previously prohibited women from serving aboard submarines. Since then, 43 women have been integrated into the sub force.

Sadly, I’ve heard that female sailors have gotten pregnant while deployed on their ships. So while nobody wants to talk about it, these things can and will happen.
Interesting that wives and girlfriends, who are females, are opposed to females being on submarines. They clearly don’t see it as some step for female empowerment and all that.
have to agree with you on that my friend I was thinking what if the female got pregnat underway, and doesn’t know about it till later..say a missed period or weeks later after pulling back in port? the only solution I could see is if they continue it is make mandatory birth control rules.
yes there is...steely eyed killers of the deep
mine were older ones..640 BNs and I decommed Shark SSN 591...skipjack class
yea I know...my wife was onboard the USS arcadia in Desert Shield...got some of the stories of the infamous “Love Boat” from her!
mine were the older ones 640 class SSBNs and 585 class SSN, the Shark SSN 591
13 years and I’ve never seen it. Any idea who has it?
It’s been so long I can’t remember lol rottndog might have an idea of who keeps the list
They should get Sen. Vitter’s little black hooker book and recruit those women to serve on the boats - make everyone happy.
Is there a Bubblehead ping list?
If not I might start one.
There was one but it has been several months since there has been a ping. Submariner might know.
I still have my poopy suits
I catch more zoomies in Texas than I ever did on a fast attack.
Chode! Or wearing chastity belts.
Yeah...people give me that confused dog look when I tell them I had less radiation exposure in 4 years living and working within 100 feet of nuclear reactor than I got in a few days on the beach in Hawaii. And that was as a nuclear operator.
Dirty little secret about co-ed crewing; girls don't like long deployments and will purposely get pregnant before or during deployment. When pregnancy is confirmed, Suzie Sailor is flown back to the States to have the baby. There is no replacement assigned to replace the missing Suzie Sailor and her work group has to absorb her duties as well as their own.
That’s disturbing.
I wouldn’t want to serve on attack subs as a guy much less as a woman.
First Gulf War one of the sub tenders was told to prepare for deployment for the first time in like a decade. Within weeks the captain was facing a manpower shortage as dozens of women suddenly got “undeployable.” There are hundreds of stories like it.
I’d love to see what percentage of women complete their first enlistment as compared to men but that’s a more closely guarded national secret than anything Edward Snowden stole.
The amine smell is almost gone!
