Yup. Its make or break time; we just got screwed yesterday by this guy. So, what next? Encourage him to "stand firm"? hahah..

I think it is high time we ditch our federal rep's and start going after our state congresscritters to enact an escrow on taxes. No more federal with-holdings on any respective state citizen; period. Our states will collect those taxes and when fedzilla is playing outside the Constitution, the state no pay. DC wants to play nice and BY THE CONSTITUTION, the state will release the funds. As well, I think the states should push for repeal of the 17th Amendment. It will only take 2/3's. I bet we can get that with things the way they are now not to mention in four more months.

Isn’t Boehner French for massive caverns?

The old joke about progress was that it was, “Three steps forward and two steps back.”

The Republican’s new version is, “Ten steps backwards, and then twenty more.”

Comity is the main goal. So after caving the Democrats insult the Republicans at length, and they rather enjoy it.

Oui...

1) Any immi bill wo path to citizenship would die in the Senate. So that is a safe poison pill. You said the Senate would pass anything, and I gave a clear example that they wont.,

Any bill coming out of conference will include a path to citizenship, but it may be contingent upon certain metrics. Once it gets to conference, the Gang of 8 takes over.

2) Bohner will not put an immi bill up for a vote unless he has a majority of GOP. Not even after conference. He never made that same promise for those other 5 bills, but he did with immi-amnesty.

As I indicated, there is a strong preference within the GOP for an immigration bill that will increase the guest worker program as well as the number of permanent legal immigrants. Depending on how the bill is worded, it could provide the cover they need for the majority to vote for the bill. One proviso that could prove pivotal is how strong the border control portion of the bill is written. It could lead to the majority of GOP approving the bill with amnesty being a trade off.

And lets be clear about amnesty. The status quo gives the Dem a win. Every year we bring in 1.2 million permanent legal immigrants. They vote two to one for the Dems. They are also 87% minorities as classified by the USG. In essence, we have the equivalent of an amnesty every ten years.

By 2019 half of the children 18 and under will be minorities. Each cohort that turns 18 every year becomes more minority and more Democrat. On the other end of the spectrum, each year every cohort that dies is mostly white and Rep. It is only a matter of time before the Dems become the permanent majority party. Unless we reduce legal immigration, the result is preordained. Amnesty just hastens the process.

There was no doubt in my mind that he would do what he did.

There was no doubt in my mind that it would end that way. Boehner said there would be no default. He sent those signals long before as did most of the Reps in the Senate and the House. The only way to be credible is to make it known that you are willing to accept the consequences of not raising the debt ceiling. Once you let your opponent know that you are unwilling to accept the consequences, you have lost.

No doubt true, but think of this. Everyone knows who Bohner is and what he would do.

No-one had-has the guts to challenge him as Speaker, meaning to replace him knowing they would ritual blame him and ritual fantasize here that he will be gone soon, just like January.

Yet they went ahead knowing they would lose.

No plan.

Dems fight to win and get their way, at least in this case.

Boehner was just giving the Tea Party caucus what it wanted. He knew it would fail and probably helped it to fail. Thus, he weakens the conservatives and diminishes their influence. Boehner and the GOPe have never had the stomach for confrontation. They just prefer symbolic acts that have no consequence.

A real opposition party would not have blinked.

But getting a SINGLE bill that a majority of House GOP and most of Senate Dems vote for is like climbing Mt Everest with a broken leg.

Send Reid a bill with zero citizenship and then send House home for holidays.

That would be fun to watch.

(sending them nothing is fine with me too_)

Very good analysis. I thought of that too,

He intended to show Rs that shutdown was fools folly, now any future ones will be crushed. To be fair, Bohner is not cut out for these types of bloody fights.

Look, Newts(Dole) 1996 surrender was very similar to this one by Bohner(McConnel) and for practical reasons it was later spun as a big victory over Clinton, I been lectured here many many times how Clinton caved.

That fairy tale was used recently.

Maybe the same will happen to this one some day,

But getting a SINGLE bill that a majority of House GOP and most of Senate Dems vote for is like climbing Mt Everest with a broken leg.

You don't seem to understand how Washington works. Both parties want an immigration bill. They are willing to compromise if each party gets what it wants. The majority of the GOP considers the increase in the guest worker program its most important objective. The big money donors have spoken.

More than 100 Republican donors — many of them prominent names in their party’s establishment — sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday urging them to support an overhaul of the nation’s immigration laws.

The letter, which calls for “legal status” for the 11 million immigrants here illegally, begins with a simple appeal: “We write to urge you to take action to fix our broken immigration system.”

“To fix our immigration system we need meaningful reforms that will (1) secure our borders, (2) provide a legal way for U.S.-based companies to hire the workers they need while making it impossible to hire workers here illegally, and (3) take control of our undocumented immigration problem by providing a path to legal status for undocumented immigrants who pay penalties and back taxes, pass criminal background checks, and go to the back of the line,” the letter says.

Send Reid a bill with zero citizenship and then send House home for holidays. That would be fun to watch.

You don't seem to get it. The Reps are working on four immigration bills--a piecemeal approach. I know for a fact that Goodlatte and Cantor are getting ready to introduce their Dreamer bill. The Judiciary committee has already passed the STEM bill--only Steve King voted against it. The idea is to pass these bills, including a border security bill, and send them to the floor for passage. They will pass with the majority of Reps voting for them. They will then be bundled up and sent to conference with the Senate. And then the bill will be voted on by both Houses. If you believe folks like Lou Barletta and Steve King, this is what is in the works.

No immigration bill out of the House is the only way we can be guaranteed this won't happen. The pressure on the GOP congressmen from corporations is enormous.

The idea that the Reps would even consider an immigration bill now demonstrates how much pressure they are under. The RNC meeting that was held this Spring in MA recommended that the GOP support a comprehensive immigration reform bill. Priebus supports it. 14 Rep senators voted for the Gang of 8 bill including so-called conservatives like Rubio. Paul Ryan is the point man in the House along with Goodlatte and Cantor.

So the question is why would the GOP leadership support immigration bills that have no chance of passing even within their caucus and divide their voter base? The answer is obvious. It is right out there in the open. The GOP leadership believes there is a real chance it will pass.

Reading your synopsis is depressing.

The pressure on the GOP congressmen from corporations is enormous.

I guess we need to up our pressure, then, to give them something to think about.

I will not be revisiting. I will be working to kill these bills. We have already gone after Goodlatte in his district with 40,000 robo calls. Goodlatte is protecting the poultry farms in his district, which depend on immigrant labor. Cantor is the next target.

If we don't try to take preemptive action, this will go foward. Boehner, Cantor, McCarthy, Ryan, Goodlatte and Pete Sessions are all part of the cabal. The Tea Party already has a candidate to challenge Sessions in the primary.
