CAIRO (Reuters) - A U.S. decision to curtail military and economic aid to Egypt to promote democracy may ultimately backfire, pushing Cairo to seek assistance elsewhere and giving Washington less leverage to stabilize a country in the heart of the Middle East.
Washington faces a dilemma in dealing with its major regional ally: Egypt controls the Suez Canal and has a peace treaty with neighboring Israel but its army overthrew the first freely elected president, Islamist Mohamed Mursi, in July.
The United States said on Wednesday it would withhold deliveries of tanks, fighter aircraft, helicopters and missiles to Cairo as well as $260 million in cash aid to push the army-backed government to steer the nation towards democracy.
Egypt's government, the second largest recipient of U.S. aid after Israel, said it would not bow to American pressure. The country's military, which has been leading the crackdown against Mursi's Muslim Brotherhood, can afford to be even more defiant.
Hundreds of Brotherhood members were killed and about 2,000 Islamist activists and Brotherhood leaders, including Mursi, were arrested.
Army chief Abdel Fatah al-Sisi has emerged as the most popular public figure ......

Russia will take up the slack...
Thank Goodness there is some sanity in Egypt. While the Egyptians understand that the moozlum brotherhood is a cancer that needs eliminated with prejudice, apparently, Clown Prince nobama embraces the moozlum criminals. If only our military and congress would take a cue from General Sisi.
President Putin Wishes to thank Mr. Obama for giving him Egypt. He needed a naval base in that part of the world—Alexandia will do nicely. The Suez Canal is also a real boost to the Russians as they seek new ways to trade with India and Afria. Maybe the Russians will do more to Protect Coptic Christians than Obama ever did. Israel better make nice nice with Putin now. Maybe give him that old hotel in Jerusalem he wants as “Russian Territory” for Pilgrims? The nice guy, fellow Muslim Obama did more harm than good—maybe the stern face of Russia will be better? At least they will respect Putin.
Russia will take up the slack...
Let Russia take up the slack on all of these aid junkies and bleed the money from their citizens.
Good for them. They should just make it up with a toll on any US ship going through the Suez Canal for the the equivalent amount.
1. Obama and his minions supported the revolution and got what they wanted.
2. The Muslim Brotherhood went into a full court press to take over the new “elected” government. Morsi was/is a leader of MB. This was part of the Obama doctrine.
3. The Egyptian military took over and outlawed the MB.This makes Obama furious.
4. The military have taken a strong stand against the MB and refused US intervention in domestic affairs.
5. Obama hates the Egyptian military.
6. Goodbye US, Hello Russia - poor Israel!!
Hillary has just as much of a role in this. Don’t let her forget it.
Yet we supposedly don't have enough to pay our own troops.
It took years and a bunch of aid and diplomacy to put Egypt back in our column, but O threw that away to aid the muzlims. Brilliant o and we will not recover from you any time soon... I guess it is the legacy you want. Thanks fool.

Sen. Rand Paul is hammering his fellow senators for keeping billions in financial aid flowing to Egypt’s military — even as Cairo’s security forces massacre anti-government activists.
[by “anti-government activists” is meant church-burning jihadists]
