Issa: 'I'll vote for a clean CR'
The Hill ^ | 10/15/2013 | Rebecca Shabad

Posted on 10/15/2013 6:01:26 PM PDT by markomalley

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said Tuesday he would vote for a “clean CR” to end the government shutdown.

“I’ll vote for a clean CR," Issa told CNN’s “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer.

“Republicans in the House have always been for a clean CR increase if it meant we began the serious negotiations on the kinds of reforms that need to happen…entitlements as a shortcut for it. That's what the deal is about right now.” Democrats have pressed Republicans to bring a continuing resolutio to the floor that funds the government and does nothing else for weeks.

GOP leaders have argued the clean CR would not have the votes to pass the House, something Democrats say is not true.

House GOP leaders are now trying to get their members to approve a new measure that would fund the government through Dec. 15 and raise the debt ceiling through Feb. 7, but it is unclear if it has the votes to pass.

The bill would also prohibit lawmakers and their staffs from getting employer contributions to their ObamaCare insurance, and would prevent the Treasury Department from using "extraordinary measures" to prevent the nation from exceeding the new debt limit.

Democrats object to those measures.

Issa had previously voted for measures to fund the government as long as Obamacare is defunded or some of the law’s other provisions are delayed.

Thing is, if the House GOP feels that their voting base thinks they caved too much, I wonder if maybe more of them will just give up and say we cannot win the support of that part of our voting base anymore?

And if a default is forced, what can the House GOP members do, if they want to keep fighting that is, once the MSM works overtime to convince the public it is 100 % their fault? What can they do for their next plan of attack?

And as for me, should I be looking to just find a farm to live on somewhere, somewhere in, say, Virginia or Texas or Ohio that could use help? Thinking of doing that now, but I am not sure where to go to find a farm or a ranch of some sort that needs more laborers like myself.

If Obama takes us into default, all political calculations, essentially become moot.

You know that debt crisis we often discuss, when exactly will we have that ‘Greek’ moment? Well, a default would be it. Runs on the banks, unrest in crapholes like Newark and Detroit as soon as the EBT cards register empty.

The chips will fall in an uncontrollable fashion after that, and its unlikely the media will have much influence in such chaos.

One outcome of that which you can be absolutely certain of.
Obama becomes the Herbert Hoover of this century. Nobody will remember who the House speaker was.

What should I do in that case? Should I start looking for a farm or a ranch or a church to live with? I was thinking that because I wondered if that is all that would be left - no restaurants, no schools, no sales companies, no universities, no malls, no stores of any kind would be open to provide jobs so I figured it was find a farm or a ranch or a church I can somehow live with or end up homeless and killed by rioters. I wish I knew where to start in finding some sort of farm or ranch or a a non federal park or a church where I can live or work because I figure that otherwise, one way or the other, I will be dead in a few days.

What’s your situation? Are you in assisted living or something similar?

I am working as a PhD student. Which in a way might be even worse than assisted living. And have a few thousand dollars (4000 or so) leftover in debt from a MS degree. And live in a small Virginia city. Maybe not as bad a situation as in Detroit but still seems like I have to find some farm or church or rural community that needs new members or be dead one way or the other by this time next week.

I noticed all you did was toss out an insult without when being able to answer my question...and you accuse me of running?..lol. All were doing now is discussing the terms of surrender of this Pickett’s charge. Obamacare was never going to be refunded. Who cares Obamcare is DOA on it’s own. So this was a good idea why?

No family to aid you?

Virginia is definitely not the place I would want to be. West Virginia would not be a bad play if things take a turn for the worse.

Calm down, I don’t think this will happen, unless I am drastically misreading the entire thing.
Lessons number 1, do not drop your life based on rumors of bad times. When bad times start coming, just move quickly.

With all that being said, if you don’t have family to round up or whatever, and want to avoid going north to WV, south is the best bet. The further south, the more Christians and militia folk there’ll be.
But for God’s sake be careful. Don’t think you can trust just anybody in a doomsday situation just because they smile and pray to Jesus.

Again, I want to emphasize, I DO NOT expect a default. That’s worst case scenario, and Obama would have to actively do it. If we pass the debt ceiling, there’s a million and one things to tear down in assets before you go to the default stage. Things like selling off the EPA’s capital and land. Obama would have to choose to default, and if he does that, then the FEMA camp stuff is true, and he’s planning martial law. Then get out.

If this did happen, I would hope we would all still be able to access FR somehow to lend each other a hand.

Fair enough. For the record, there is no family I can rely on to aid me, none at all. So that, unfortunately, is out. A couple things:

1. What is wrong with Virginia, btw? I know it is not great but I thought at least it is not as awful as New York, Mass or California. Am I missing something?

2. How would I know, if I did end up South, in say, Tennessee, Georgia, Texas, Alabama, Northern Florida, North Carolina or other such state, how would I know who is reliable? Would there be any ways to tell?

The reason I would stay away from Virginia is the proximity to DC. We all know Obama has purged a lot of the military and replaced the leadership with his queer puppets. If it comes to martial law, and most of the military goes along, Virginia would be one of the first states they’d lock down. No exit.

On your second question, we’re going into SHTF territory where I do not claim to be any sort of guru. My advice is be very suspicious of everybody, unless its someone you know well. When a society collapses, people change. Many become animals, and the libtards become lower than animals.
Travel armed. That’s the first thing. Know how to use a weapon and never let it out of your sight.

This will not happen within a matter of hours. In a default/debt crisis/meltdown scenario, the fastest it would occur would be a couple of weeks.
With that time frame in mind, I think we on FreeRepublic could perhaps organize our own SHTF-Plan, as a group. I’ll assume many share your situation, and want some security in case the worm starts to turn, but are not die-hard preppers with bunkers etc.

And bear in mind, I am making some assumptions (in the case of a default) that I maybe shouldn’t make.
I’m assuming the loss of control would be quick, and would gather momentum with time, unlike the ongoing Greek crisis that has been so slow that years have dragged on. The difference I’m calculating is that Greece had a far smaller population, was far more isolated economically from the world, not hugely balkanized with urban sprawls of thugs, and the government was very much more in control (or rather the EU was) than our government, which can’t even successfully close a memorial. If they seized people’s assets here, the country is not so brain dead they’d accept it.
Perhaps I am wrong. Perhaps it would be slow and painful. Perhaps Obama would seize the bank accounts before things really spiraled out of control.

I just don’t know how this story ends.

Reid will get everything he wants. The republican elites will cave and they’ll pass a CR with a majority of democrat votes. This could have been done two weeks ago. We all had the feeling it was nothing but show. The only hope is for Cruz to hold it up in the senate.

The republicans should say “We won the house with votes from the people. Obama won re-election with votes from the electoral college that the democrats want to do away with.” Since they don’t say something like this to defend their take over of the house, it tells me they’re still not serious.

I may vote one more time just to vote against all rinos.

There never was going to be an early CR/DL deal. The Dems didn’t want one. So stop trashing conservatives for engaging them on deathcare.

McConnell & Boehner have always been happy to rubber stamp obamacare funding and tip toe to 2014. That’s not how our Constitution works(ed). The American people were sold a false bill of goods on keyancare and our Reps a have (had)a Constitutional right to demand changes. The abject abdication of their Constitutional role by GOP leadership has hugely harmed our Constitution. You seem ok with that. Fine, whatever.
